Yet another unique and entertaining episode with the many added laughs by the hilarious Flula Borg! That's what I really love about this show - all the amazing guest appearances, and aside from Flula, we saw Bawie Kwipkie (Barry Kripke) from The Big Bang Theory's John Ross Bowie, as well at the two smoke-show hotties Kayla Ewell and Rebekah Graf. Nice!

Not the Most Interesting, but Not Bad
SourCandyOrNoCandy22 May 2022
This wasn't the most interesting episode, but it was still pretty good. We finally get to put a face to the name of Skip Tracer Randy, so that was fun.
Best parts of the episode?
Worst parts of the episode?
Best parts of the episode?
- I love how they didn't make a big deal out of the fact that Chen's father wasn't her biological one. She said it best - "The man who raised me is my dad."
- This Wesley handyman storyline was so funny. I especially loved when he and Sabrina went up to Curtis.
Worst parts of the episode?
- The cases just weren't the most interesting or memorable.
I love Randy!

Yeah, Randy is annoying, but he's so funny and the accent makes him even funnier. I am glad we finally get to see him in person.
This series has always had a bit of a comedic edge and I am always happy when over the top characters like Randy pop up now and again (like John's hlaf-brother Pete). And they aren't just there for comic relief, they actually support the story and become helpful support.
FWIW, I found Jar Jar Binks kinda funny, too, so maybe I am biased at my love of goofball characters who annoy the living F out of the other characters. And they provide a good foil against the much more serious characters and situations they find themselves in.

I was sad when Randy didn't die

Nolan said it: a little Randy goes a long way. So why do a Randy-centric episode? The past episodes' Randy phone bits weren't all that funny.
Nolan is supposed to be old but if he can't catch a woman running with her hands cuffed behind her he doesn't belong on the streets. As far as that goes running while cuffed like that throws off your balance and you tend to stumble.
A good show depicts the reality of social concerns in the context of drama, this show is scared to depict serious things so it ends up just talking about them, that's why it's preachy. Wesley could be seeing a lot at the neighborhood center and we seeing them through his eyes. Instead it's blah blah blah about the issues while they play a scene with a comedy drug dealer.
The writers and producers should look back to past shows like NYPD Blue to see how to handle balancing professional, personal, and social story elements. Look at how Major Crimes handled Rusty Beck's homelessness, his mother issues, and his sexuality.
This show has and can be better but it has to stop playing it safe.

The writers must not want another season
peacedovehippiemama28 February 2022
The writers must be on strike or changed hands?! I throughly enjoy this light hearted show but stupid Skip Tracer character is a complete Moron!! From him intertwining with Bailey I'm sure they're planning on keeping him the series 🙄 Good grief almighty!! Get back to the original way you use to do the show or this will be the final season.
Beyond Stupid

For me this is going the same way as S. W. A. T I.e. Utter rubbish script writing, lame attempts at humour and insufferable characters like the German guy in this episode. It started off marginal for me anyway, but stuck it out until this episode. I gave up on SWAT and I'll watch the rest of this wretched series, but if it doesn't improve significantly I am not going to bother.
absurdity gone wrong

Warning: Spoilers
When watching this episode my first thought was I wish that skip tracer Randy would get shot, stayed shot, and went away forever. Worst characters ever. Not person mind you but character. You can not kill him enough times for me. The actor who had to play this character should have been given overtime, hazard pay, and bereavement pay to play this character. Randy was so ridiculous you could classify playing the character as abuse. The only thing more disturbing than Randy is when they had Molly Quinn aka Castle's daughter played Ashley. That was icky. Second, whoever wrote this episode just give them a lollipop, send them to their room, and ask them to think about what they did. Whoever liked watching this episode just take their lollipop from them, send them to their room, and ask them to think about what they did. No adult with the ability to think critically should ever write, act, or watch this episode. Ever! The only reason for doing this episode is for the paycheck. It holds no other value than that period. It actually violated every syllable of the word integrity. It is like a bowl of the sweetest cereal your kid will ever eat. If you eat enough of it it gets all gummy in your mouth and gives you a stomach ache. At that point, you realize there was nothing of value to be gained by eating it and you just want the taste out of your mouth. Last thing, addressing the woman with cancer. The idea that another woman would fire you for being late to work because you were at chemo is pandering to the audience. Is it possible? Yes. Probable? No. That woman would have to be Cruella Deville after she ate the wicked witch of the west. The hate that befalls a woman who did that would be epic. Let's try to keep the craziness in the realm of reality. This episode was absurdity gone wrong. Nothing clever. Just wrong.
Two Poor Episodes in a Row
sjspode21 April 2022
I was hoping that the previous poor episode was a one off, but alas not.
The bounty hunter storyline was ridiculous and the actress/ show legal adviser not much better.
What was good about the show is rapidly deteriorating and becoming a smaller percentage of each episode.
Next episode is going to be key to whether the show gets ditched from my viewing schedules...

MIGHT BE TIME FOR NEW WRITERS & PRODUCERS
WOW! I'm a fan of the show. I've enjoyed past episodes, but this was the worst that has come from the writers and producers. I was lost in this mind numbing episode. I wasn't sure what the actual plot or subplots were.
How about getting back to the premise of actual policing, like investigating robberies, homicides, burglaries, kidnappings, domestic situations, etc. All the things that Police officers encounter on a regular basis, and stay away from quirkiness (i.e. Chen's frozen eggs). This episode was not realistic.
I liked the episodes featuring Wesley having to deal with Elijah. Even that arc of episodes was better than this one. I and I'm sure a lot of fans would like to see the show getting back to what it was originally about and that is being the police.

I waited a month for this episode? XD what... the.. hell...
Unfortunately The Rookie has been going downhill ever since the end of season 3, since then it's been nonstop bad episodes one after another and this one took the cake.
Super annoying characters, bad story, nothing but random nonsense, even lucy's father search was a complete waste of time.
Whoever thought up skip tracer randy as a character clearly had too much coffee or was on drugs lol yes lets make a character that everyone is annoyed with, does stupid stuff constantly oh and by some miracle gets shot twice in the same episode, in the exact same spot but still lives, ooookay.
Considering the entire show used to revolve around nolan and his fight to graduate from rookie status, the fact that this event was swept under the rug in season 3's final episode and it was never really acknowledged further afterwards, says a lot.
Lopez seems to have lost her game when switching to detective, she lets people get away from her a lot now, the old Lopez would have had them in cuffs quickly. Seems like her edge has been dulled.
Writers clearly don't know where to go with the show anymore and couldn't even deliver on what should have been a huge and important moment for the show lol
Season 4 has been a flop, you guys need to get it together over there.

Skip Tracer Randy
djmcg0720 July 2022
The writers, without shame, bring this silly very childish addition to the character cast from a voice on the speakerphone to an even worse addition as a visible character. This character degrades the show and weakens the good cast and character development in a light-hearted police procedural.

Cue the Shark!
BrassRingEdward28 February 2022
It's gettin' lame, guys. Not only do these cops suck at actually being cops, but the new "politically correct/pandering" anti-gun idiocy of now adding gun flashes in post (because guns are bad and Alec Baldwin, that anti-gun bonehead screwed up a hundred years of on-set gun safety) make already unrealistic gunfights all the more goofy looking. #ChensAnIdiot.
It's quite bad, unfortunately...
standerksen18 September 2022
The whole episode was so bad, I made an IMDb account to write a review. I used to love this series the first seasons, but I could not enjoy this entire episode because I was constantly thinking "wow, this is bad." Up to a point where I feel bad for the actor that are actually decent at acting.
I don't mind the "wokeness" in this series, but the horrible acting from time to time totally throws me off. The writing is not what it used to be, not to mention the totally misplaced Skip Tracer Randy character. I really really really hope it gets better at the end of the season or the next one, because otherwise season 5 will be my last.

Worse than the interview episodes

I like Flula Borg in most of his little cameos, but this episode kind of left a bad taste in my mouth over all his other work
The regulars do as good of a job as possible with the absolutely ridiculously convoluted premise.
I genuinely don't know how to put out the rest of the characters needed for this review, so I'm gonna rant about a character.
Nolan's old landlord/roommate is a hilarious actor that should be checked out in many of his appearances. The rat detective was badass in sons of anarchy. Bradford is usually a twat and I always thought of him as such but he's probably my favorite character in the whole show.

Getting annoyed
ChristianAlxs10 July 2022
I really loved the first three seasons, but season four is starting to become annoying. Randy should've died, he's not funny at all. Flula Borg is a terrible actor and has the worst timing.
I'm really hoping season 5 has a more serious tone and less of these annoying cameos because I'm really losing interest.
