Synopsis

  • Hannah wakes up from a hot, sweaty dream about Harry the cop. She tells us about the past catching up with us and that every decision has consequences. "There's always a day of reckoning," she says.

Belle waits in court to hear the verdict on Stephanie. Harry is there, too, and Belle can't stop thinking naughty thoughts. She's jarred out of them by the verdict: "Guilty." But Belle's lawyer client Liam assures her everything is under control. The judge in court essentially gives Stephanie time-served. She's free to go. Flash back to Stephanie spanking the judge.

Stephanie thanks Belle for all she's done and tells her she's throwing a party in her honor to say thanks. Poppy lingers near her mother and both Belle and Stephanie wait to see how mad she's going to be. She hugs her instead.

Belle sees Ben talking to Harry, who has told Ben that he works with Belle. Not good. Harry assures Ben that Belle was "very professional at all times" and there was nothing "untoward." After Harry leaves, Ben asks her who he was. Belle says he's a friend of Stephanie's, but Ben clearly doesn't believe her. He's angry that he still doesn't know why she left him a freaked out message two days ago and then disappeared all day. She says it's part of her job, but he's not sure how much more of it he can take. She asks if he wants her to give up her job.

Belle gets ready for work, saying she doesn't want to give up her job, she loves it. She figures she was right, no man can handle her job. She opens the door and sees Harry on her doorstep. He can handle what she does.

He wanders around inside her place, and mocks a picture of Ben. Harry says she's trying to be something she's not. He tries to make a move, but she has to go to work.

On her way to a job, Belle assures us she's totally in control at all times and knows who she is. She trips getting off the elevator, right in front of her client, Louis. He looks at her oddly, like he might know her.

In the room, she tries to get Louis to tell her what he likes. She whispers sweet nothings and encourages him to share, but the talk works a little too well and he's over before they start. Then he realizes she's "Hannah Baxter, from school."

Later, they share a shot on the patio. He tells her about being in advertising and asks why she chose her job. She remembers past clients and says because she's good at it. She enjoys getting to know the clients and learning their secrets. Louis asks if it's just that simple. She remembers the ways it's not, past boyfriends not being able to handle it, Ben telling her there's no Belle or Hannah, just her who doesn't know what she wants.

Louis confesses he always had a crush on her in school.

"there's nothing like colliding with your past to help you face your present," she says.

Hannah comes home to find Ben packing. He says he can't take it anymore. When they were friends, she used to tell him everything, but now he doesn't trust her. She wants him to stay and talk but he tells her he'll meet her at midnight after Stephanie's party. It's her decision, she has to decide who she wants to be.

Hannah gets ready for a night as Belle, thinking of Harry.

At the party Liam the lawyer introduces her to his new girlfriend, a prosecutor. Belle thinks she recognizes her.

Harry creeps up on her. He tells her he needs to talk to her, but she walks away.

She finds Charlotte, all decked out in rubber and leading a man around in rubber and a mask. He's not a client, he's her husband.

Stephanie tells Belle there's no one else she could have trusted with the business and that she's a natural. Harry peels Belle away.

    Ben waits for Hannah.

Harry tells her she can't run away from him forever. He wants to be with her. He kisses her. He says he feels alive with her and she'll never be able to make Ben happy. He promises her adventure. "I don't want you to give up your life, I just want to have you in mine," he says.

She sees the time on the clock and leaves.

She finds Ben and kisses him. She's crying. "This is it, isn't it?" he asks. She tells him she loves him and he's her best friend. She wants him to have the best life, but she can't give him what he needs. She says he deserves more. "You know this is the end, Hannah. You can't go back from this," Ben says through tears. She kisses him and walks away. "Some choices we make for ourselves in life, and some we make for other people. Not because we don't love them, but because we do," she says. "The only way we know it's right is if it lets us stay true to ourselves. But we can't regret our choices." She walks by Harry. She keeps walking.
