- One of the game's most prominent masterminds targets two foes and sets a plan in motion to oust one of them, along with an immunity idol, in one of the most memorable tribal councils of the season.
- Previously on...: The game that began as old vs. young has changed. The younger tribe has dominated, and it was led by Brenda, Chase, NaOnka and Sash, but the surprise switch broke that alliance apart. At the new La Flor, Jane was embraced by the younger members, and Brenda targeted Marty, despite his public display of an immunity idol. At Espada, Holly joined with the younger crowd. Tyrone was perceived as a threat, who went home on a nearly unanimous vote. Yve wasn't told about the plan.
Espada camp: Dan tells Holly he's thinking about packing it in, but she tries to convince him not to quit. She tells us he needs to "suck it up and finish."
Yve asks Holly why she was left in the dark on the Tyrone vote. Holly says they thought Yve was in an alliance with Tyrone. Holly says everyone should be "more open and honest." Then she tells Yve that Dan wants to quit. Yve tells us she's going to use that information to stay alive.
La Flor: Jill tries to win over the younger members of the by doing the dishes. She thinks the younger folks will get rid of the older ones "in a heartbeat, if they could." Brenda confirms to us that "it's still younger tribe and older tribe -- actually, it's younger tribe, plus Jane." She says she wants to split the vote between Marty and Jill to flush out the idol, "and whatever happens, one of them is going home."
Immunity challenge: Jeff explains that "tribal immunity is not what you're playing for today -- individual immunity is what you seek." He says both tribes will be going to Tribal Council and one from each will go home. There are two immunity idols up for grabs, one for each tribe.
The players have to dig up rope rings with a paddle, then toss them over their shoulders into a carrying case that is on their backs. They have to bring three rings back to a post. The first to do it in each tribe wins individual immunity.
The winners will then compete in a ring toss for a tribal reward: a chicken and beef kabob feast that will be eaten during the other tribe's Council.
Espada digs first. Holly takes an early lead, getting two rings before anyone else. Benry and Alina catch up with two rings apiece, but Holly scores her third ring for the win first. Dan, it should be noted, was "nowhere," in Jeff's words. He didn't land one ring.
La Flor competes and the competition is much more even. Everyone has at least one ring before Marty, Kelly B. and Jill get their second ones. Jill lands her third ring to win immunity.
For the feast, they tie 2-2 on rings before Jill wins nails her third to win the feast for La Flor.
La Flor: In a festive atmosphere, Jill thanks Brenda for picking her to be on her team. Brenda tells us later she's annoyed because their best laid plans are out the window because both Jill and Marty have an idol.
Sash and Brenda collude to split the vote: three for Marty and three for Kelly B. They'll tell Kelly B. that the three votes are going for Jane. They seem happy as they end the conversation. This gives Brenda a chance to, once again, talk about the potential sympathy vote for Kelly B.
Brenda goes to Kelly B. and tells her that as much as she likes Jane, they're going to have to vote her out. Kelly B. decides to play along because she knows she's "on the outs" with the original La Flor tribe and wants to lay low. Brenda is worried that Fabio could mess up the plan because you never know what he's going to do.
Just then, we see Marty back at camp telling Fabio that he's a grand master at chess, and that if he wants to get in on a great strategic move in the game, he should join Marty's alliance. Marty tells Fabio that he once beat an Argentine grand master named Guillermo Vilas. Marty tells us later that he absolutely is not a grand master at chess, but that Vilas is actually a tennis champion and has nothing to do with chess. Fabio tells us "it sounds like a good deal." Marty tells Fabio that he wants to take him to the final three. Marty tells us that if he can pull this off, "it'll be a whole new ball game."
Espada: Holly is glad she won immunity, but is feeling bad about having lost the reward, which will allow the other tribe to watch their Tribal Council. Holly tells us she's going to have to vote with the majority. Dan starts telling us he's really wondering if he wants to be there. He says he doesn't need the money.
Benry wants to get rid of Yve because she's more of a threat and he doesn't want her around for the merge. Chase tells us he might be better off keeping Yve around, and he goes and talks to NaOnka about it. Chase says he could get Yve on his side. NaOnka thinks Dan should go because the tribe needs to win challenges. Yve starts making her case to NaOnka and Alina, saying she knows the older members on the other tribe well, which makes her an asset to the younger Espada members. Alina later tells us that Yve might have dug herself a hole, because if she's so close with the older members on the other tribe, she could easily turn on Espada's younger members after the merge.
Chase tells NaOnka and Holly that it might be wise to keep Dan because he's less of a threat. They disagree, but they both just want some clear direction and a final decision.
La Flor: Brenda tells Jane she's safe and proceeds to tell her the plan. Brenda tells Jane to vote for Marty, and she's more than happy to do it because she's never been welcomed by Marty and Jill.
Sash goes to tell Fabio the plan to flush the idol out, and tells him it's three votes for Marty and three for Kelly B. Fabio questions the strategy and admits he likes Marty. Sash tries to convince him it's too dangerous to let Marty hold on to the idol. Sash tells us he's worried something could go wrong.
Sash tells Marty the vote is for Jane. Marty tells us it might be too risky to shake things up with Fabio this soon, so he'll go along with the Jane plan as long as it's "a lock."
Marty watches Brenda and Sash talking and wonders why there's so much talking if the Jane vote is, in fact, "a lock." He tells us the decision on whether to use the idol will be a difficult one.
La Flor Tribal: Jeff tells Marty the old folks look out of place on the tribe, and Marty admits that everything changed on him. Sash recalls Marty's introductory meeting when the tribes flipped and the fact that he had an idol. Brenda says Marty was "trying to make it look more noble than it really is."
Jeff tells Marty he must be wondering whether his tribe mates were going to go after him. Jeff asks Kelly B. what "trust" means in the game, and she says she wouldn't trust anyone very much. Jeff asks how comfortable she is, and she says, "I feel pretty comfortable tonight."
Jeff asks Brenda if Jane has to worry tonight and Brenda suddenly drops the bomb that Jane only has to worry about Jill and Marty voting her out. Marty, stunned, says he doesn't know what she's talking about. They commence arguing over who said what earlier and Marty reveals that "La Flor made that call," in reference to the idea of voting Jane out. Sash looks a little surprised by the developments. Marty finishes by saying, "I never offered up Jane."
Marty then says he feels less comfortable now than he did before Tribal because he realizes there's "duplicity" going on. He again states that he never initiated a vote on Jane because "that would be moronic of me." Marty then mouths to Jane, "Vote Brenda." She nods.
La Flor vote: Jane writes down Marty's name, saying, "Don't ever fluff off a Southern woman. I ain't no sittin' duck, honey." Marty writes down Brenda's name, saying, "You're the Black Widow, King Cobra and Black Mamba all rolled into one. You may not be going home tonight, but the lines have been drawn." Brenda writes down Kelly B.'s name.
Jeff asks if anyone has a hidden idol and wants to play it. The dramatic music rises and the focus turns to Marty who ... does nothing but shrugs toward Jill.
Jeff reads the votes: Marty, Marty, Marty, Brenda, Brenda, Kelly B., Kelly B., Kelly B. Marty shakes his head as Jeff announces, "We have a tie."
Jeff explains that in the case of a tie, Marty and Kelly B. cannot vote, and the new votes must be for either Marty or Kelly B.
Jeff reads the new votes: Marty, Kelly B., Kelly B., Kelly B., and one more makes Kelly B. the sixth person voted out.
Marty displays some crazy eyes toward everyone.
Kelly's last words: "Going into tonight, I was pretty sure that there was consensus on the tribe that we were going to keep the young people together, and so to be singled out for whatever reason, you know, I just never got a vibe that I did something wrong. I'm surprised by the decision tonight."
Espada's Tribal Council: La Flor digs in to the feast. Jeff asks Dan whether it bothers him to hear the ice plunking into the glasses as La Flor eats. "If it isn't a martini, it doesn't bother me," Dan replied, drawing laughs from both tribes.
Jeff asks Dan what does bother him, and Dan defiantly says, "Nothing. If things bothered me, I wouldn't be here." Dan says it would bother him if he got voted out. Yve says Dan is agitated by something around camp all the time, "to the brink of almost not wanting to stay." Dan denies that he complains that way.
Jeff asks Benry if Dan is a liability at challenges, and Benry says it is fair to say that. Dan admit that in "certain challenges" he's a liability. Yve says she loves Dan, but she does think he's a liability. Dan says he feels animosity from Yve and adds, "I think she feels like tonight might not be a good night for her." Yve nods and agrees that's a fair statement. "I do," Yve says. "I feel like my head is on the chopping block."
Dan says Yve is arrogant, and she says she doesn't talk about her Ferrarris and her six cars. "I do," Dan admits. Then he says, that it's Yve's "overall attitude" that makes her seem arrogant.
Alina admits the vote is between Dan and Yve, adding that it's between someone who's a liability and someone who's competing a lot harder.
Espada vote: Yve writes Dan's name down, saying, "They've decided me or you, and I'd much rather it be you."
Jeff reads the votes: Yve, Dan, Yve, Yve, and one more means Yve is the seventh person voted out.
Yve's last words: "It's frustrating to be out of the game at this point. I do think it was a mistake to let me go. Perhaps they have reason for letting me go that I'm clearly unaware of."
