Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez, the wife of the magistrate of Querétaro, is part of a conspiracy against the Spanish government. Other criollos involved are Ignacio Allende, Juan Aldama and Miguel Hidalgo. A spy at the meetings alerts the authorities about the group's intentions. Magistrate Miguel Dominguez, husband of Doña Josefa, is ordered to conduct a house-to-house search to capture the insurgent leaders. To protect his wife, he keeps her under lock and key. However, Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez manages to send a message to the priest Miguel Hidalgo telling him that the conspiracy has been uncovered.
