Back to the Frontier
C.J.-45 June 2011
This is an extremely good episode - neither action-filled nor ground-breaking, but excellent non-the-less. Faced with starting life with nothing but their hands and the clothes on their back, they created a frontier village. No, you can't build hdro-electricity generators within months without mines to mine the ore, smelting plants to extract copper and tools to work with. Faced with the same dilemma, I would be proud to have achieved the same in such a short space of time and I'm an engineer. We saw an alternate life for these key characters - filled with adversity, hope and achievement. This season has upped its game and, despite the continuous omission of humour that would have ensured its success in the ratings, it's still very good science fiction.

Warning: Spoilers
Good episode, but it's just more filler. One thing I never understood about this series is why the show creators created so many filler episodes. There's more filler episodes than there are episodes about Destiny's main mission which is a real shame because the main mission story is so awesome!

One observation I have from this episode is Camille must be a supercentenarian in that last scene if she's the last surviving member of the original destiny crew. In the crowd, during her speech at the end of the episode, there are quite a few elderly people so if the children of the original crew are old then camille must be well over 100. Good episode.....but I think it was wasted in this series.

another shockingly bad episode

Warning: Spoilers
some terrible cgi to start the episode off doesn't bode well. Then we get to watch the duplicate crew through kino recordings from settlement through their lives. Now here's the shockingly bad bit. they suddenly take on the look and feel of early American settlers right down to their clothing reverting to vintage lace for the women and old men suits for the guys. Why? it's not like they had these clothes with them so how did they learn how to make lace clothing so the women could look femininely armish almost? The answer is simple. The writers and wardrobe people are 8 year old's dumbing it all down into clichés they think the audience needs. Settling a new planet must be portrayed in the biggest cliché in their mind, ie the settlement of America. Aged log cabins? check, period clothing? Check? Vintage attitudes? Check. Why would modern people with modern science knowledge have to go back to the dark ages? they wouldn't they'd build hydro electricity with in months. Watching this episode made me feel insulted by the writers. They must think we're idiots to buy this rubbish.
