Warning: Spoilers
With most of the characters introduced in the opening episode this episode throws us straight into the story; most of the survivors from the transporter have made it to Forthaven but one escape pod is lost. Not surprisingly at this point Stella's daughter is still unaccounted for. She is the sole survivor in the pod but by the time a search party arrives she has been taken by a group of genetically engineered people known as ACs (Advanced Cultivars). They are the people Mitchell had been ordered to kill many years before and understandable they aren't happy with Tate and the other inhabitants of Forthaven. They have a baby but it is ill, in order to get it treated they threaten to kill Stella's daughter. Back in Forthaven another survivor has been accused of stealing a place on the escape pod from the mother of another survivor; he claims that she gave it to him but Stella doesn't trust him and grows to believe he could be a threat to the girl.

This was a decent second outing although it felt as though something was lacking now that Jamie Bamber's character has been killed off. I also felt that we learnt about the ACs a little too soon although this did lead nicely into telling us how the colony was suffering from lower than expected reproductive rates. In the opening episode it looked as if President Tate was going to be the villain of the series but now I'm not so sure; it is possible that he will be a flawed hero and new arrival Julius Berger could be the true villain… he is certainly creepy enough to be!

Episode #1.2

Warning: Spoilers
I wasn't impressed with this episode.

First of all it seems to me that I like the protagonists way less than I like the "bad guys". It seems that their characters are too flat to care about them. Of course so are the antagonist, but at least they seem to have some sort of mystery about them that makes them more interesting. I am the most interested in Julius Berger character so far

Acting wasn't very impressive as well. The one who especially stood out at sucking was Jeanne Kitzmann who plays Lily. In most of the scenes I would think that acting students who do the first year at some community college could do it better

Now we'll see what the next episode will be like

Episode 2 - (very minor spoilers)

Warning: Spoilers
Just finished watching episode 2 on BBC TV. Same as the first, it talks about "issues", flawed personalities and the problems within relationships. Any "action" seems thrown in just to keep you following this soap opera.

But tonight i find myself wondering "why?" a lot.

For instance, we have an ex child "prodigy" who, now get this, when they chose him to travel for 5 years to the new planet brought along about a hundred Vinyl LPs (Records) and a turntable and speakers. Now i am sure that i might be just getting picky, but one assumes that mankind's first colony ships would be quite full with more vital items than a 12 year olds music collection?

I hope you are fit and healthy in the new future? Well you need to be! Half a dozen crashed life-pods scattered through the alien landscape.....then lets walk. What, no motorbikes? No 4x4? No Helicopters? No Remote control aircraft? Hmmmm, the future looks bleak for the petrol heads.

When the survivors are rescued from the life pods and brought to their new alien home, and after 5 years in space, is there a smooth reception system ready to care and look after them? Are there groups of doctors, medics, social care workers and family members there to ease them into a new life? Well, no actually. People seem to wander around, are offered some fruit and the settlers smile at them. Oh, and one of the rescued might be a peadophile/religious/power mad killer with "followers"....oh dear oh dear.

After 2 episodes I feel let down by the usually excellent BBC, and can only think that "Outcasts" seems to be a missed opportunity.

Typical BBC - rant

Poor. No other statement required.

This one idea and three episodes dragged out in too more than I can remember.

It is cheap to make. Three sets for the majority of it. No Character development and a weak plot that should have stayed in the pitching room. Poor acting, editing, scripting and even camera work - which is difficult.

Please just jump to the chase. All those up and coming actors who's career's are now denigrated to the latest Dr Who. Stood around in the same conversations. On a planet full of sand with clean uniforms. And the classic B-Movie cost saver, facsimiles.

Look if you're here you saw it. The BBC will class this as original programming. It is time for this donkey of a company to close. This is the worst kind of TV, deliberate and designed to save money against a criticism of a lack of new programming. Desperately trying to justify its enormous expense.

The BBC is by far the most expensive channel I rent. We need to get this conversation going more. And figure how to bypass that committee that safe guards us and get the politicians off the fence and chop this crap up.
