Dr. Stein states that Tetracentron is an extinct genus of plant. It's not entirely correct: out of five knows species, one, T. sinense, is still growing in Asia. However, she might've been confused if the species she encountered was T. hopkinsii, fossils of which were found in British Columbia, Canada, where the film was shot.

No one shoots at an approaching helicopter just like that, that too without any warning to stay away. Some important government authority or private wealthy man could be on the helicopter and it would have heavy consequences if such a person is hurt or dead. They should first have tried to contact the helicopter.

The agent (Jack) picks up Jocelyn he says; "You may have knowledge of a geological catastrophe." A giant plant would be a biological (botanical) catastrophe. While the agent might not know the difference, a person with training in biology would, and would not continue to repeat and amplify the error in the following conversation.
