Impressive and touching

Beirut after 40 brings back the memory of the Beirut explosion from the middle of the scene. Anthony was blessed to survive the explosion and tell/film about it. It's a very touching documentary that shows what everyone went through right at the moment of the explosion and how everyone was trying to help whoever needed help. Loved the security cameras feeds it really showed a lot of the sad scenes at the moment of the explosion.

Well done !

Touching!

Beirut After 40 is a short film that not much of the American industry sees nowadays: more drama and less of reality. Merchak really brings out the reality of the situation and informs the public from the 1st person perspective of the Lebanese incident. A great short film and should be distributed to the masses!

Very touching and amazing.

This is hands down one of the best short films I've watched. It gave me goosebumps, and brought my eyes to tears as I was watching it. I have friends who have lost theirs and some who got hurt on this explosion that happened on August 4th.

Anthony and his friend survived this tragic accident, and they are telling the story and how it exactly happened.

I recommend this short film to everyone to watch. Anthony has done an amazing job, and I am very proud of him, and thankful to have him around us.

GOOSE BUMPS!

I remember going LIVE with Anthony Merchak on my instagram after the explosion, I remember his story and every word he said. Then, two weeks ago, I watched this movie. While watching it, I got goose bumps. I was not in Lebanon when the explosion happened, this movie made me FEEL exactly what happened. I felt I was there. He has footage of the moment of explosion which is to me the strongest moment in this movie, and footage from the hospital (I cannot believe people went through that in 2020). I have no idea how he got these footages, but I know that he had to go through a lot of trouble to get his hand on those rushes. I see a lot of dedication in this movie, a lot of creativity, and a hard worker who deserves recognition. Knowing Anthony myself from my previous job, I know that is is about time his hard work across the years gets appreciated by the international community. Besides that, him as a survivor - having told his story, requires a lot of guts! I love this movie - the WORLD deserves to see what Lebanese people went through on August 4, and what we have been going through since 1975. Lebanon is a phoenix, but Lebanon has been suffering, but just like this movie shows we always RISE through solidarity. Anthony was saved by the people around him. That is Lebanon. Lebanon is not WAR. Lebanon is brotherhood, we are great people and it is unfair what has been happening to us.

The filmmaker managed to combine all emotions. Being able to see images of before (through CCTV), during and the aftermath, it gives you a different perspective. Beautifully edited, great soundtrack.

exceptional marriage of memory
oalmuzian26 January 2022
'Beirut After 40' brings together all the words.

I think it's an exceptional marriage of memory, research, doubt, reconstruction, possible conflicting memories, verifiable fact and, like all true stories, a soupçon or three of fiction.

The film within the film within the film is a godsend as a construction and as a scenario. You've milked it and yet finally your film and your approach is full of humanity and (from someone as egocentric as you, my dear friend) full of humility.

You made me smile, you made me weep, you made me laugh. You provided me with an exceptional Documentary film experience that I will never forget, Anthony.

Breathtaking movie

The times in the movie "Beirut After Forty" overlap, to become identifiable through a film depicted within a film. The crew of a documentary film entitled "The Thread of Appeal" became part of another real movie they experienced with all its shocking details.

In Beirut, specifically on August 4, 2020, the director of the two films, Anthony Mershak and his team, were following the work of filming his first film "The Thread of Appeal", which talks about the concerns of the Lebanese youth and records many views of young people whose dreams and destinies oscillate between traveling and staying in Lebanon despite the difficult circumstances. In which they are faced.

While they are in the midst of working on completing a stage of their documentary film, the powerful explosion of Beirut Port takes place, which shook the Lebanese capital and left many casualties and injuries on that hot summer day.

These three minutes changed the whole concept of the film.

Beautiful and tragic

A must watch to understand the terrible event that made us all focus our eyes on Beirut. A smart and thoughtful approach to covering a disaster and making us all feel human and wanting to help one another. I hope the world will see this film and know that even in the darkest moments we can all find kindness and beauty in one another. This short made me want to watch a whole movie on the lives of the people affected by this terrible event. Bravo to the filmmakers for their bravery and for the courage to revisit a traumatic time. This film will help others encountering any trauma in their lives and inspire us.

Shocking and emotional

As someone in the west who only experienced Aug 4 through the news, this documentary profoundly heightened my understanding of the horror and magnitude of the explosion and its impact on the people of Lebanon. Thank you. I pray the film heightens the compassion of the world for the depth of this tragedy and recovery. I appreciated the rawness of the footage and sharp focus on the personal moment to moment experiences of a few individuals. It brought out the heroism and brotherly love of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. This will always be in my mind now when I think of this event. My understanding is transformed.

Amazing!

As person who worked on the filming of this movie, I cannot praise it. This option will remain for viewers.

But working on the production of this film was special and ideal, because its goal was to commemorate the victims of the port explosion in Beirut in 4,8,2020, and to deliver a message to the whole world about the crime committed against the Lebanese people.

Must see!
ranasghanem4 December 2022
As a Lebanese living abroad during the time of the explosion, this movie put life to the horrors we were imagining august 4. It further put a face to a survivor, who is normally overlooked in the news, and made me feel, but for timing, that could have been me. Just months before I was walking the same streets. I appreciate this documentary's honesty and powerful message. The documentary pulled me into the screen and put me in the shoes of the survivor; I could t look away. I believe this movie is a must see for every westerner who has the luxury of a Canadian or American society and who can only imagine the pain that day brought.

Remarkable story!

Wow! This man is a walking miracle. From beginning to end, Anthony's courage is remarkable, and his miraculous survival inspires viewers from beginning to end. It's like he takes you there with him. The fact he was filming another documentary at this this occurred, and then he ends up becoming the character of an entirely different documentary in a split second is just mind blowing. Beirut After 40 is a MUST see for all.

Phenomenal masterpiece! 10/10!!!!

A riveting, raw and thought-provoking documentary. The first-hand account and actual footage was mind blowing and emotional.

Although only 25 minutes in length, you immediately delve into and become a part of that seemingly never ending day. Most shocking was the closed circuit footage from throughout the city used during the first hand narration by Anthony. This is absolutely breathtaking and tragic and leaves you with many questions. Your body almost viscerally reacts to the narration and images and it prompts you to articulate about the larger issues at play in Lebanon politics and government. Absolutely Bravo!!!!!
