What happened? The most boring Beck-movie so far, I was so disappointed. The story is sooooo thin. We fast forwarded the last 20 minutes. Good acting as always, though.

Probably the worst Beck movie so far

Started having suspicions early into the movie, and it all just continued getting worse. The script is terrible and the least credible and engaging of any episode in the Beck series. Hope next Beck returns to the good level we have gotten used to.
Beck: 58 Minutes
Tweekums28 May 2022
This episode opens in a TV studio during a live broadcast; those due to be interviewed include Alex Beijer, a member of Beck's team, and Tomas Tormalm, a wealthy businessman who is due to talk about his charitable work. As the show starts a security guard pulls out a gun and takes those present hostage; in the confusion Tormalm escapes. The hostage taker wants him back... he says that if he isn't back by the time the show is due to end, in fifty eight minutes, he will start killing hostages. While tensions rise further in the studio the police must find out why this man is acting how he is and what Tormalm might have done to cause such feeling.
Usually 'Beck' opens with a murder but this is something different; I can understand why this will disappoint some viewers. I found it enjoyable even if it isn't one of the best episodes. The sealed studio setting created an impressive sense of claustrophobia and the way it plays out in real time gives a sense of urgency. The question of why the hostage taker is doing what he is is intriguing; various early hints make the actually reason not too surprising when it comes. There are some problems of course, most obviously the way team member Josef behaves would almost certainly get any real police officer kicked off the force! As one would expect the acting is good throughout. Overall I'd say this wasn't a classic episode but I still quite liked it.
These comments are based on watching the episode in Swedish with English subtitles.

24 rip off in the worst way possible

This is a movie you can skip. In spite of a few great preformances it is simply bad. People are idiots, make bad choises the whole movie. No one did any research before writing this crap. It makes the Beck franchise look like a joke.
Lost it totally

Warning: Spoilers
In contrast to the other reviewers here I enjoyed this episode very much.
OK, it's not some convoluted murder plot, but I was gripped throughout and although I started to suspect that Peter was acting under pressure, I didn't work out who was behind it all until more or less when the script revealed it.
As usual, every time someone suddenly spoke English, for a split second I would be fooled into thinking I understood Swedish :) (The facility everyone seems to have to switch into English at any time is really impressive) The dialogue between Tormalm and his English wife sounded as though it had been written by someone who either speaks English as a first language, or is extremely fluent. It sounded, especially on her part (fittingly) completely genuine.
Unlike others, I didn't find the political aspects a turn off & it's completely in line with the original Beck books to include such topics. The people who created Beck, Sjöwall and Wahlöö, made a point of writing about social issues in the Swedish welfare state along with traditional police procedural content, so this story, with its focus on a rich businessman ruining lives while he racks up more & more money, is spot on for a Beck topic.
I knew it probably wasn't going to end well for Maya, but was really hoping I was wrong. Ended up wishing they would include something to say her son would somehow be OK.
It's sad tale this one, no triumph to be had for anyone. At least there was the discussion between Jenny & Oskar to bring a little light relief.
Maybe people who want intrigue, gore & triumphant police catching bad guys won't like this more thoughtful episode, but it really is not bad.

Boring

Boring, boring, boring...
Nothing like the other movies in Beck. Would have been cool if the movie actually was 58 minutes.
They need to make Beck the actuall main character again and focus less on other characters like Alex.

Predictable and really, really bad

All the boxes for stereotypes for this kind of "drama" is checked.
It is like the Beck franchise got a whole new writing crew resurrected from some bad 90s american crime show.
As one viewer said earlier, worst possible 24 rip off.
Worst Beck movie yet so the next one can only be better.
At the same time I cannot give only one star because sadly enough there are even worse movies out there.

Very lazy story

Warning: Spoilers
There is absolutely no realism to this movie.
Why is the homicide squad getting involved? Why is there not an actual negotiator involved? Why doesn't the police (other than the homicide squad) look into the perpetrator and see what his motives are.
Why did nobody in the studio call the police?
Why does nobody find it strange that the daughter was not at home, but its over an hour before class starts, so where is she?
Why would the police not go grab the guy the perpetrator wants? They should be interrogating that guy and trying to find out what the perpetrator wants.
Its just so exceptionally lazy in it's writing. You could have easily turned it into a decent story if they had done the work and tried to figure out how the police would handle these situations in real life.
Big disappointment. Hope this is not a new trend to the movies. If so I won't be watching them anymore.

Avid fan of the Beck movies. This was a travesty. Stay clear... or risk having to burn your tv. Bad plot, bad and totally unrealistic police action. Must have been written and directed by a intern or maybe the janitor.

Honestly I found it kinda boring, tough the storyline was kinda cool. I thought it was stupid they made the villain some clueless guy who didn't understand what he had done wrong. There were tooo many characters in my opinion, I honestly liked it more when it was mostly beck, gunvall and a few police officers. Also were was beck in this movie? I felt like he had very few moments in the movie towards the end. It also kinda felt like tormalm got off waaay too easy. I mean he murderd an entire family and just got a slap on the wrist. Bonus points for valdemar.
