Plot

A deadly virus is turning the world's population into walking corpses. While the world erupts into chaos around them, Takashi Komuro and his friends frantically search for a way to break free from the living dead.

Depressed because is childhood friend and secret love interest Rei Miyamoto is dating his best friend, Takashi Komuro skips class on the first day of school to get a breath of fresh air. He witnesses two PE teachers get killed at the front gate and then come back to life. Realizing something is wrong, he seeks out Rei and best friend Hisashi. Rei tries to call her father but all lines are busy.

A voice over the intercom tells students to evacuate the school. When the person delivering the message is killed on the air, widespread panic ensues as students crowd the halls. Rei, Hisashi, and Takashi decide to go through the less crowded management building and encounter a teacher who is now a zombie. Rei spears him through the heart, but the zombie continues to fight. Hisashi comes to Rei's aid and is bitten on the arm by the zombie. Takashi smashes the zombie's head with a bat, which teaches them that a blow to the head will stop the zombies.

Faced with an increasing number of zombies, Rei, Hisashi, and Takashi head for the roof of a building and block the entrance. By now, Hisashi is spitting up a lot of blood, and it is clear that he is turning into a zombie. He asks Takashi to help him over the roof's railing to keep from becoming a zombie, but a disbelieving Rei objects. Before the issue can be resolved, Hisashi becomes a zombie and starts to attack Rei. Takashi gathers up all his courage and attacks his best friend. Credits roll.

After the credits, a scene shows the aftermath of Takagi's attack on Hisashi. Rei is upset and lashes out at Takashi, saying that he killed Hisashi because he was dating her. Believing Rei no longer wants him around, Takashi starts to take down the barricade between them and the zombies. Tears streaming down her face, Rei apologizes and begs him to not leave her. Takashi gets down from the barricade, and he and Rei embrace each other.
