Great look at gender issues
etler10 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
First off, this short film is not in any way a comedy. It is a commentary on gender inequalities. It does this by swapping the traditional male and female roles. It starts off showing things such as men getting leered at by women, getting catcalls, and women running topless while men have to cover up. This escalates when (spoiler!) the main character eventually gets sexually assaulted by a group of women. It then shows what happens at the police station and his interaction with his girlfriend/wife. I found this to be a really great way of showing men especially what women have to go through on a daily basis. I've heard all of this before of course, but as a man, seeing how it would be if the tables were turned was extremely uncomfortable in a very good way. I think it's important for people to see this film. It's been making the rounds on US social media sites so I can only hope it has at least a small amount of positive impact on gender equality issues.

This film carries the appropriate punch for the unconscious masses

Rarely have I idly clicked on a Facebook "sponsored link" and seen something as worthwhile as this.

This film reminds us of mutual respect, a respect that has, albeit improved, in the last 30 or so years - still has a long way to go.

We all have times when we wish to be lavished and even objectified, but most guys (including me on numerous occasions) have objectified women audibly and publicly at times when they don't want it.

This film put me in their shoes for a few minutes....

Thank you to Eleonore Pourriat and the cast/crew.

Overshooting the mark

Warning: Spoilers
"Majorité opprimée" or "Oppressed Majority" is a French French-language live action short film from 2010 and the first directorial credit from the career of Eleonore Pourriat, who is also the writer here, but otherwise usually more on the acting side. Anyway, this work here takes us into the world of sexism where we have a man who constantly gets discriminated against by females, so this film clearly tried to turn the tables and depict how wrong and even absurd sexism is and how it should not be tolerated. Important subject and there is a good moment here and there "father fûcker", the short pants reference near the end and a few others too, but still it is eventually quantity of quality as this film rushes one discriminatory scene after the next and at some point it just doesn't feel right anymore because it just feels as if the film wants to stir up trouble instead of really making a powerful statement. Subtlety is non-existent. It is also very inaccurate at times. The best example is the politce interrogation scene. Uusally female victims of sex offenses are taken care of by female officers and even of it's male officers, then these will not make comments about the butt of a female apprentice in the presence of the victim. So maybe you would not be incorrect if you call this a slightly androbynist little film. A bit of a pity as the potential for a good film is here and visible on several occasions, but they are simply overshooting the mark on too many occasions. Thumbs-down. Don't watch.
