When Pete is 'negotiating' his first date with Dr. Hernandez he says, "Couldn't we go to the Dutch place on Fifth and go Chinese?". At first, this may seem like just a clever turn on 'going Dutch', however, going Chinese when paying is a real thing and there are specific rules to the custom. Such as if you are a guest of honor, or from out of town, or paying would be a financial hardship compared to others at the table, or you were invited by another person, then in China you would not be expected to pay for the meal.
