- Walter's growing ambition puts him at odds with Skyler, while Jesse finds himself drawn deeper into Gus's operation. Meanwhile, a cryptic warning forces Walter to confront his own vulnerability.
- It's the morning after the night before and Walt has a major hangover. Skyler is now convinced that Walt is in danger but he makes sure she understands exactly how important he is to the criminal organization. He's a little too blunt as Skyler's reaction is to take the baby and disappear for a few days. One of Gus' trucks has been hijacked so Mike and Jesse are tasked to get the blue meth back. Once again, Jesse proves to be unexpectedly useful. In the lab, Walt is fed up with Jesse going off on errands with Mike and so comes up with his own solution to cleaning up. He also learns that his actions may have unintended consequences.—garykmcd
- Two guards ride in the back of a Los Pollos Hermanos refrigerator truck which is suddenly forced off the road by cartel hit-men, led by cartel member Gaff (Maurice Compte). They shoot the driver in the head, lock the truck, and use a hose to redirect the truck's exhaust into the ventilation system. They eat the driver's lunch while the hidden guards die of carbon monoxide poisoning. Gaff and his men then open the truck and find a marked container of fry batter that contains Meth for distribution.
Skyler White (Anna Gunn) listens to Walt's voice message twice after researching Gale Boetticher's death on the internet. She wakes up a hungover Walter White (Bryan Cranston) the morning after their dinner with Hank (Dean Norris) and Marie Schrader (Betsy Brandt) during which Walt suggested to Hank that the genius who created the blue Meth might still be out there.
Skyler wants to talk to Walt about Gale. She suspects Gale's death is related to the Meth operation, which leads her to pressure Walt to call the police due to the danger it presents their family. Skyler believes that Gale was working with Walter at his lab and that the people Walter worked for were the ones who killed Gale. Skyler that the message from Walter on the answering machine was some kind of goodbye. She also says that some part of Walter wants Hank to catch him.
She suggests a hypothetical situation where one day an in-over-his-head Walter opens his front door and is shot in the face; Walter, furious that she does not understand the scope of his criminal operation, responds that, in that scenario, he'd be "the one who knocks." The level of apparent danger causes Skyler to flee the house, taking Holly with her. She ponders escaping to Colorado, going so far as to drive to the Four Corners Monument, but ultimately reconsiders.
Walter receives the keys to the car wash from Bogdan Wolynetz (Marius Stan) and avenges his past insults (Walter was a cashier, but Bogdan made him wipe down cars for incoming customers) by making Bogdan leave behind his framed first earned dollar, which Walter uses to buy a soda. Walter tells Walter Jr. (RJ Mitte) he is not moving back home and buys a new Dodge Challenger to cheer him up. Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) returns to the lab and Walter expresses doubt that Jesse was hired to help Mike due to stopping an earlier robbery, considering the whole thing a ruse by Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) to create a wedge between them. The robbers never even chased Jesse and gave up pretty damn easily. Jesse is later called away by Mike before he can help clean the lab. Infuriated, Walter pays off three women at the laundry to do it, but afterwards feels guilty as Gus punishes them by sending Tyrus Kitt (Ray Campbell) to deport them back to Honduras (if not having them shot).
Jesse and Mike scout a house selling the blue Meth from the hijacked truck. Mike says that their orders are to wait and observe as Meth heads can be unpredictable. Jesse grows impatient and tricks one of the Meth users into letting him into the house, where he knocks out the other. Mike notices the message "Ready to talk?" written on the stolen container in Spanish. Gus meets with Mike at a diner that night and decides to try and negotiate with the cartel. Mike was in favor of hiring 10-15 men and hit back at the cartel, but Gus does not want to escalate things for now. Incidentally, Gus seems impressed with Jesse's actions at the house and tells Jesse why he gave him another chance, saying "I like to think I see things in people."
Skyler arrives home and demands that Walter return Junior's car, as buying lavish things threatens their cover story, saying "someone has to protect this family from the man who protects this family."
