The toreadors march out into the arenas, accompanied by the men on horse back in this Lumiere short.
It's a very simple composition for Lumiere, with a single line of movement. You may view this as a simple subject, worthy of no more than is shown on the screen, or you may look on it as a sign of the loss of leadership by Lumiere's far-roaming movie makers. Whereas earlier Lumiere pictures would have complicated movements separated into different areas of the screen, everything here is concentrated in the middle of the screen, with movement from the middle of the upper edge towards the lower.
