- In this holiday romantic comedy, a mysterious woman who works at the post office answering Santa's mail captures the heart of a disillusioned postal carrier
- A postman falls for the pretty co-worker he was recruited to spy on, only to realize that she may be the woman of his dreams in this romantic holiday comedy. When Matt's boss grows suspicious of new hire Kristi, a "Santa Writer" whose job is responding to letters addressed to the North Pole, she recruits him to spy on her and report back with any unusual findings. But the more time Matt spends observing Kristi, the harder he starts to fall for her until he's hopelessly in love. Later, when Kristi uncovers the clandestine plot, she quits her job and disappears without a trace. Meanwhile, Matt searches high and low for her, to no avail. But when Kristi learns that Matt had no choice if he wanted to keep his job, it's only a matter of time before fate brings them back together.—Anonymous
- Kristi North works only two months out of the year at the same job: hand writing letter responses to children who wrote to Santa. "Corporate" sends her to a different postal outlet every year, corporate in fact being her father, Santa Claus, and not the postal service as her coworkers believe. Since becoming an adult, Kristi has been looking for a place that she could truly call home. The outlet that she is working at this year in Del Vista, California is managed by egotistical Richard Fuller, who has no Christmas spirit whatsoever and does not allow any Christmas adornments in the outlet. Believing Kristi to be a corporate spy somehow trying to catch him in a mistake to thwart what he believes is an imminent promotion, Fuller enlists the assistance of carrier Matt Sanders as assistant manager, his primary job responsibility to spy back on Kristi. Matt reluctantly takes the job solely because he needs the money as a single man taking care of an eight year old child, his orphaned niece Emily. Matt gave up his life in a band where he was living and took the carrier job to take care of Emily in her own home not to add to her upheaval, and as such has focused all his energies on taking care of her at the expense of his own life. Emily's Christmas wish, which she writes to Santa about, is wanting her Uncle Matt to be happy, in part by finding someone with who to fall in love. Santa's response, via Kristi, who is unaware that Emily's Matt is the same as Matt her coworker, leads to Emily trying to act as matchmaker. In the meantime, Matt tries to do his job by getting closer to Kristi. In the process, Matt and Kristi start to fall for each other, Kristi for the first time in her life. But a happily ever after for them would possibly be threatened by other things happening in Matt's life as well as Kristi finding out about Matt's clandestine work for Fuller.—Huggo
- In Del Vista, California, Matt Sanders the mailman is delivering mail and collecting letters from children to Santa Claus. Children are shown writing and addressing the letters (one uses a computer), and the colorful envelopes are shown being processed by equipment at the large Del Vista mail processing center.
After he visits one house where the children tweeted their request to Santa, Matt is also carrying a large number of boxes. One of the letters he has to take to the post office falls on the ground. Perky and pretty Kristi North is walking past with a suitcase and her dog Rudy. Rudy grabs the envelope and Matt and Kristi meet as Matt must retrieve the envelope. Kristi has to do it and she puts it in Matt's mouth.
At the mail processing facility, Matt is not working hard enough and gets criticized by demanding boss Richard Fuller, who thinks anything related to Christmas is nothing more than a distraction. The letters to Santa (which Fuller thinks are slowing down his operation) all go to one nice office in the building. Guess who works there? It is Kristi who responds to all the letters, claiming to be Santa Claus. Sally is one of the employees who delivers some of the letters, and she becomes friendly with Kristi. One of the letters is from a little girl named Emily who lost her parents and lives with an uncle who is nice, but needs a companion.
Emily is shown at home with her uncle, who is ... Matt. Matt is trying, but he's not as happy as he could be.
Fuller calls Matt into his office and says there is a mysterious new employee and he believes she is spying on him, trying to determine whether he is worthy of a promotion. Fuller says if he gets promoted, Matt may someday be in charge of the Del Vista office. For now, Matt gets a promotion to assistant manager, if he will investigate Kristi and find out what her real purpose is. Matt meets Kristi (again) and they become friendly.
Matt talks on the phone with one of the members of a band he used to belong to. They want him back as they are preparing to go on tour, but he has Emily and has to be responsible. As he looks in the closet for decorations, Matt finds his old guitar.
Emily hears from Santa, who says he can't do certain things, but that Emily will have to do what she wants herself. One day Matt gets a call from Emily asking where the matches are and if the stove is supposed to make a clicking noise. This is an emergency, and Matt rushes home to find elderly Mrs. Johnson at his house, and it is clear Emily is trying to set Matt up with Mrs. Johnson. They have a nice meal but Matt asks Emily to never set him up with someone that old.
Sally visits Kristi at her apartment and finds her crying as she watches an animated Christmas cartoon. Kristi says she is homesick. They have a nice visit.
Emily sends another letter and gets another response, and this time Matt gets invited to join a support group for single parents. He is uncomfortable with their questions.
Fuller is getting frustrated with Matt's efforts. He does point out that Matt and Kristi are not allowed to have a romantic relationship, but he asks Matt to take a tiny recording device to find out what he can about Kristi. Matt refuses to do that, and Fuller uses the device to record Matt saying he doesn't have feelings for Kristi. Still, Matt's job is on the line. So far, all anyone knows is that Kristi works two months out of the year, and in a different location each year. Later, it is determined she wrote such good letters from Santa that she was given the job each year by someone high up in the Postal Service.
In one of his conversations with Kristi, after Kristi reads a letter from a boy whose sister steals his toys, Matt reveals he had a sister. Asked if they are still close, Matt says she died.
One late evening in the break room, Kristi puts her things down as she makes hot chocolate with real cocoa, not instant, and Matt finds a letter that was forwarded to her. Matt secretly takes the letter and turns it over to Fuller to investigate.
Emily has a nightmare and asks questions about her parents. Matt does his best to try to answer, but then Emily asks more uncomfortable questions. Matt calls Heather, who is with the band, and is so happy to hear from Matt. No, Matt is not joining the band, but he asks Heather to get on a plane and come help him with Emily, who needs a woman in her life.
Matt invites Kristi to lunch, and Kristi says yes. But it won't be in a restaurant. It will be a picnic. Kristi loves picnics but it won't be outside. Matt has a Chinese lunch delivered. Amazingly, Kristi can speak Cantonese to the delivery man. Matt thinks it is Chinese, but Kristi says she speaks Mandarin too. She knows lots of languages because kids write letters to Santa in many languages. The picnic later moves outside to a park.
Fuller is getting more frustrated because his investigation leads to a dead end. There is no evidence of Kristi before just a few years ago.
Heather arrives and Emily is so glad to see her. Heather and Emily spend time together. Matt asks Kristi to meet him in the park because he has someone he wants her to meet. Sally gives Kristi a makeover, though she was quite pretty to begin with.
Before Matt arrives, Kristi calls to a bird and talks to it. Heather and Emily see her talking to the bird and are amazed, and Kristi teaches Emily how. They become good friends, and then Kristi sees Matt, and it becomes clear to Kristi that Heather, Emily and Matt are a family, and she disappears.
The next time Matt sees Kristi, she is very upset with him. Matt tells her Heather was just an old friend, and Emily is the daughter of his late sister. Kristi comes over to Matt's house and helps make cookies, with natural sprinkles. Then Matt gets out his guitar and plays loud rock music while Heather sings. It is not explained why the audience can also hear drums.
Fuller has finally had enough. Not only are letters to Santa slowing down his operation, but emails to Santa, which for some reason go through the Postal Service servers, are also slowing down computers. Letters to Santa will now go to the dead letter office, and Kristi has to go. Sally tells the Postmaster General what is going on.
Kristi hears that Matt was just trying to get information out of her, and she assumes that means Matt didn't care about her. Kristi leaves the building very hurt, and just in case anything Matt could say will change her mind, Fuller plays that recording of him saying he doesn't have feelings for her. Fuller also tells Matt he is delivering mail once again.
Kristi calls her Dad and says she's coming home for Christmas.
Matt finds out his band got a record deal, and he sees no reason to keep his postal job, so he's joining the band on tour. Although he hates to do this to Emily, the girl wants to go with them.
But while Matt is delivering mail, a postal truck pulls up beside him. A man resembling Santa Claus, in a mailman's uniform, hands him an important letter.
Fuller is asked to come to his office. Matt is dressed like a rock star with his feet on the desk, which angers Fuller. Matt informs him what has happened and says this is no longer his office, and Sally tells Fuller about his new position. Sally, who has Fuller's old job, is later shown working from Kristi's old office. Fuller now washes trucks.
Matt is ready to leave with Heather and Emily, but he wants to pick up Kristi too. But Kristi has left her apartment. All she had was Rudy and the suitcase. So Matt, Heather and Emily leave.
Kristi is still in the neighborhood, walking with Rudy and the suitcase, when she is picked up by that same mailman who delivered the special letter to Matt. Sally gives Kristi a ride, and Kristi figures out how to find Matt. She just lets the most elaborate Christmas decorations on people's houses point the way, and it works. Kristi and Matt are reunited and Kristi will travel with him and the band. But she has one last phone call to make. As she tells her father she can't come home, "Ho! Ho! Ho!" is heard from her phone.
