Frogger (1981) was a classic, it was revolutionary for its time, addictive, with a decent difficulty curve and it's simplicity worked in its favor.
Frogger Returns tries to cash in on this by essentially replicating it with slightly updated graphics and that's a good thing. Sadly there is practically no content and they complicate a solid concept with ludicrous bonuses and gimmicks.
See that's the trouble when developers dig up or modernize classic titles, they miss the point entirely. Frogger's simplicity of getting from A to B was enjoyable, but here with non-rail limited enemies, gimmicks, bonuses which freeze or make things go in reverse are rather counter productive.
To make matters worse there are like 5 levels, for 2009 that was unforgivable. Why bring back a beloved classic if you aren't going to give it the attention it deserves?
Frogger Returns is a harmless pickup for lovers of the original who are open minded to change and find it in a sale. Outside of that it's a poor rehash of a classic.
The Good:
Same classic gameplay
