Originally shot and released as an eight-episode web series in 2007. It was later re-cut as a feature length film in 2010.
The cat on screen when Zack is doing his animal exercises was provided by Zack's girlfriend at the time of shooting. She also lent for production the unconventional scooter Zack rides around in when he flashes back to creating a car as preparation for a movie.
The only shooting done in Brooklyn (primarily the film is set at two locations, inside the apartment and outside when Michael does animal exercises by the East River in Manhattan) was for the opening fight scene. Director Zack Abramowitz chose the location during a scout led by friend and sound mixer Jason Friedman-Mendez, who originally used the location for his first short film. The scene was shot several times, with the longest take running eight minutes; one unbroken shot of pure improvisation, which was ultimately used in the finished film (if you look closely you can see the crew standing by and laughing while Zack is continuing the scene - when he tells them to "shut up.").
Zack Abramowitz wrote the original script in three days. At first it was only 30 pages, but over lots of improvisation and added scenes the film bumped up to 80 minutes when it was all cut together.
Zack Abramowitz and Michael Berberich were not friends before the time of shooting. During the audition process, Zack selected Michael as his co-star due to the great chemistry they had upon reading scenes together.
