Synopsis

  • Open with Liz talking to Jack about approving budget for the TGS staff mothers to come to town. Jack has forgotten it's Mother's Day. Just as he is yelling for Jonathan to arrange something he finds Colleen at the door: "Too late, Jackie."

We see various mothers arriving in the office, including Liz's mom Margaret and Jenna's mom Verna.

Tracy doesn't know his mother, so Pete offers to hire an actress to play his mother on camera.

Colleen is not in town for Mother's Day. She is there because she has heard about Jack and Nancy's relationship. He says he hasn't told her about Nancy because she never approves of any woman he likes. Jack puts Kenneth in charge of watching Colleen.

Verna has brought tacky shirts for her and Jenna to wear on the show. This makes Jenna nervous.

A group of the mothers surround Liz and talk to her about still not being married. Colleen thinks she needs to stop waiting for the perfect guy.

Verna (who is being paid by Jack to pretend to be a good mother) tells Jack she wants the other half of the payment early. She's spent the first half getting one of her breasts lifted and needs to finish the work. He won't pay the rest until she gives Jenna all the Mother's Day love she deserves.

Pete's found an actress named Novella Nelson to play Tracy's mom. Tracy doesn't like the fact Novella isn't a huge star. He wants someone bigger like Serena Williams.

At lunch Colleen tells Jack she's figured out that Jack is also involved with Avery. She wants him to choose one.

Verna isn't happy Jenna wants them to wear something else. Verna wanted to wear the shirts to advertise them and this causes a fight.

Liz and Margaret talk about her choice in men. Margaret tells Liz that the perfect guy is out there. She tells a shocked Liz that she found him but he wasn't her husband. Margaret had a fling with Buzz Aldrin and turned down the chance to marry him because she didn't want to move. Liz thinks Margaret should regret not marrying a famous astronaut.

Verna tells Jack she's leaving. She's tired of Jenna. Jack reminds her that if she leaves she won't get paid.

Tracy tells Novella she isn't high profile enough for him. Tracy says he doesn't want a mother who has "black judge" on her resume nine times.

Colleen gets away from Kenneth and finds Avery. She hints that Jack has another woman in the picture.

Liz tells Jack about Buzz and her mother's choice. Jack knows Buzz and offers her a chance to meet him.

Jenna and Tracy discuss their problems with mothers. They end up realizing you can't choose your mother, even if she's fake.

Avery confronts Jack about the other woman. Since they never discussed being exclusive she's not furious. But she tells Jack he needs to make a decision.

Liz goes to see Buzz. He tells her that he's had his share of problems over the years, including talking to the moon, depression, alcoholism, cheating, etc. He tells her that he would have put Margaret through hell. Liz realizes there is no such thing as the perfect guy.

Verna and Jenna make up, as do Tracy and Novella.

Liz tells Margaret she made the right decision not marrying Buzz.

Jack confronts Colleen about meddling in his personal life. He ends up asking her advice as to who he should pick. She tells him she can't help him.
