Enver Gjokaj was convincing as an Eastern European (Balkan)
safenoe28 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Judging from the user reviews, this episode touched a raw nerve for some. I actually thought Enver Gjokaj made a convincing Eastern European and actually looked like one, so kudos to the casting team. Enver owned this episode and it's a shame he didn't make more appearances in Community.

Community is about being anti-woke and politically incorrect, and it takes pot shots at most races/ethnicities/nationalities except Canadians, and this episode pretty much covered the Balkans.

Please, six seasons and a movie.

Incredibly ignorant
mina-bankova12 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The character of the Balkan guy Lukka, who happens to be a Balkan war criminal is one of the most ignorant and racist things I've seen on mainstream American media. Firstly, the Balkans are a diverse land, that includes Greece, a part of Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, tiny part of Italy and what till 1992 was Yugoslavia (now split in 7 different small countries). I guess the screenwriters were referring to the Yugoslav wars that happened during the early 90's, together with the Bosnian genocide, also called the Serbian massacre. The character of Luka should have been a toddler when those event happened. As this is a very dark spot on the European history, creating such image of a Balkan person is like having a German collage character to be a nazi. On the other hand this historical events are an example of foreign propaganda and involvement in domestic politics, aiming to destabilize a potential political and economical power that Yugoslavia could have been. This includes US involvement as well, so I find this episode to be quite hypocritical and disappointing.

Americans are just to shallow
andreas-myrvold12 July 2021
It really pisses me off that an american show uses the "east-european villan" stereotype. It is so cheap, and not only offensive to the Balkans. I mean, it seems like you want to picture Europe as a dangerous place filled with bloodthirsty barbarians. Really america!? Have you even looked at yourself? Which country has the highest prison population by far, not to even mention the ABSURD murder rate compared to every other country in the world. Jeeeeeezzzz...deal with your own stuff before picking on other nations, you have some serious issues. This is episode, and the ones with the germans are truly unwatchable and downgrades an otherwise great show as a whole. Shame on you.

Anti-Serbian propaganda, just what we need
enjakovic14 December 2020
What is it with shows on Netflix that they always promote inclusiveness equality and breaking stereotypes (especially harmful ones), yet they are consistently portraying Balkans, especially Serbs and Bosnians, like hateful, blood-crazed, and straight-up psychopaths?

Heroes and villains
djole00112 April 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I liked Chang (Ken Jeong) as a teacher, and I would like to see more Chang on the show. I would like to see him as a part of the group as I find him always interesting, unlike some characters from the group(Jeff, Britta and Annie). That is why it was very interesting to see what will happen between him and Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown). She is charismatic but for some reason here story line wasn't very interesting one, and I guess that this twist could change it.

Other side of story was unique. This is a comedy, so you do expect to see some funny characters. And although Annie wants to cover all "ethnic basis covered", she is not the one that introduces guy from Balkan. As I mentioned, this is a comedy, and I am pretty sure that you can find funny, unique and special people in every part of the world. From Balkan we've got villain. I mean, every country has its heroes and its villains. From Balkan we've got a villain - one of the biggest villains ever in this show. His story will show ironic look on video games and killing people in them. It would be stupid to say that video games should be banned because of this, but some people might read them on the way that we never could imagine. Also war or killing people really looks like game.. Take a look at the plains: Pilots have controls that are similar to those you have in video games, and their goal is to hit the target, just like in a video game. And for some young Balkan, American, Iran young soldiers - war is a game!

I do not think that character like Lukka should be in a comedy. The way that story "ran away" from him had to happen, but it wasn't good for the show.

Also, I would like to mention that Balkan is not a country or union - it is a place (territory). It is not great when you do not mention one country or region at all and than you show villain like this one. Somebody might think that you are a racist..

Loved this show until this episode
radic-stefan2 October 2020
The character Luka, who is from Balkan and who likes to "massacre villages, butcher babies and cleanse for the motherland" and also makes "podvarak" is the WORST THING THAT HAPPENED TO THIS SHOW. I applaud to writers who came up with this stuff. You should maybe lay off writing... I mean, this is a show full of stereotypical jokes about black people, Chinese and Indians that don't cross the line, and then they make one episode about such a delicate situation in this part of the world, portraying whole region as blood thirsty war criminals... Oh, the actor that played Luka is half Albanian. Of course he is, wouldn't be surprised if he changed the scenario just to fit his American-Albanian narrative.

Classic Balkan stereotype
ItsEmaBitch18 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Isn't this getting old? The whole America is the greatest country in the world, Russians, Serbians, Albanians, Croatians, Bosnian and the entire Balkan are psychopaths and murderers.

Yes, people in these countries kill each other every day on the streets and then we dance in a circle around the fire and drink our enemies blood.

Come on people.

Absolutely terrible
Vandora95963 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I really liked the show until this episode. Why must you represent the Balkan people as such villains, murderers, and the worst people ever? Also, good job, a half-Albanian guy playing a guy from former Yugoslavia, most probably Serbian because, you know - classic 'murican' propaganda. Shame on the whole crew for coming up with this and for people on agreeing with this.

Also, genocide? Damn.
