Synopsis

  • Open with Jack and Avery seeming to be very happy with their relationship. Liz comes in with a birthday card for Jack. She tells him she's been exploring as many singles activities as possible. Just then Nancy walks into the room and tells Jack "Good news, I'm divorced."

Liz tells Jenna she's been struggling with singles events. She seems to be having trouble flirting. Jenna thinks she go with Liz and help.

Jack shows Nancy around the studio and they agree to go to lunch. Jack tells Liz he never expected Nancy to get divorced. Jack plans to juggle the women for the weekend Nancy is in town and then make a decision. Liz doesn't think he'll be able to do it.

Toofer hears a racial slur on the subway and complains to Tracy, Grixx and Dot Com. Tracy is convinced that old school racism returns with Obama's election. White people no longer feel sorry for black people.

At a line dancing singles event, Jenna tries to impress Jarem, who "collects posters."

Nancy gives Jack saltwater taffy for his birthday. It's reminds him of his youth. Jack tells her he has to go the black-tie event (a date with Avery) that evening but they agree to meet afterwards for drinks.

At the party Jack declines to be photographed with Avery. His excuse is that it would be conflict of interest since she's a business reporter and he's working on a deal with Kabletown. Jack seems torn between the women.

Toofer asks Liz whether he was hired due to affirmative action. After she admits it is true, Toofer quits.

Jack goes to see Nancy at her hotel room. She suggests they watch a Lee Marvin marathon and wait until the next morning to fool around. While there he gets a call from Avery saying she is at Derek Jeter's apartment playing beer pongs with Yankees and former New York mayors. Jack leaves.

Despite not having slept with either woman the night before, Jack tells Liz he's struggling handling both women. He thinks whichever women he's with is the right one: "How do you choose between Derek Jeter and Lee Marvin." He's worried about losing both women if he doesn't handle it correctly and had Liz spend some time with Nancy.

Pete wants Tracy to get Toofer to come back. Tracy tells everybody the office has become a hotbed of racism. Liz refuses to call Toofer and beg him to come back. As a woman who has never gotten special treatment she respects his decision.

Avery gives Jack his birthday present: The cufflinks Ronald Reagan was buried in. She tells him "somebody you'll as great a man as he was."

Nancy tries to help Liz pick-up a guy and learns that she's way too picky when it comes to potential boyfriends. She thinks Liz should focus on what she wants. Jenna still can't impress Jarem.

At the next singles dodge ball game Liz opens up to a man she has previously snubbed. She goes on a long-winded speech about the things she's is looking for in a man. Afterwards we see that the man barely speaks English and things he is at an AA meeting.

Pete points out that Liz has gotten benefits from being a woman: A jazz dance scholarship that was part of Title IX and a hire at Second City because she could feed cats. The only reason NBC even picked-up TGS was to counter-balance complaints about a new show called "Bitch Hunter." Liz realizes she is no better than Toofer.

Jack tells Liz TGS would never have been on the show without affirmative action. He ponders the birthday gifts from Nancy and Avery. He can't make up his mind. Nancy walks into the room with her luggage. She suggests coming back in a few weeks and getting together. Jack hugs her just as Avery shows up on the TV screen. Liz passes out.
