- Avery asks Jack to act as a mentor to someone besides Liz, but Liz has her own problems when her married 80-year-old father visits to cruise singles bars. Meanwhile, Jenna is mad because NBC has an obituary for Tracy but not for her.
- When Avery points out the peculiarity of Jack and Liz's bond, he vows to set some boundaries. With Jack keeping his distance, Liz is left to deal with her father's attempt to recapture his youth during a visit. Meanwhile, Tracy enlists Kenneth's help to reinvent himself after viewing his own pre-produced video obituary. Much to Jenna's dismay, she finds out that no one has shot her video, so she decides to make it herself.—NBC Publicity
- Open with Jack and Avery talking about the baby. It comes up that Jack doesn't like the name Charlotte, primarily because of Liz. Avery thinks he needs to have more boundaries when it comes to Liz. Jack disagrees, saying she is more than an employee. Liz is his mentee and he doesn't choose them lightly. Avery starts to freak out due to a hormone swing and Jack accidentally calls her "Lemon."
During a tour Kenneth is shocked to see an editing crew working on a news report of Tracy's recent death. He is told that Tracy is fine. The network simply pre-records obits for its biggest stars. Kenneth asks for permission to show the piece to Tracy.
Liz gets a call from her father Dick. He is coming to New York City, but for some reason isn't bringing her mother. Liz is worried, particularly when he hangs up quickly when her mom comes home.
Tracy doesn't like the way his legacy looks on TV. He tells Kenneth he hates the way he'll be remembered and storms out. Jenna walks and hears what's going on from Kenneth. She is curious to see what her obit looks like.
Liz tries to talk to Jack about Dick's weird visit but he tells her the nature of their relationship must change. Liz seems a little ticked that she'll now to solve all of her own problems.
Jenna is told she does not have an obit on file, even though a woman she's never heard of (Kim Jong-il) has one.
Jack tells Jonathan he is looking for a new person to mentor. Jonathan would love the honor but when he is unable to cut off Jack's pinkie he is told he does not possess the ambition necessary.
Dick shows up at Liz's apartment. Her mother thinks Dick is in town for a colonoscopy and he tell her Liz they are "on a break." She thinks he's pretending to have problems in the marriage so he can have a "gentleman's intermission" and won't let him stay with her. He plans to crash with an army buddy and visit a place called "Swingles" the next night.
Liz tries to call Jack about this new development. Avery answers the phone and will not let her speak with him.
Tracy tells Jack about his legacy problems. After explaining to him the true meaning of "Googling yourself," Jack offers to provide him some leadership. Tracy says he doesn't need any help because "when I go to sleep nothing happens in the world." Tracy leaves, and Jack tells Kenneth that Tracy failed the test of humility and cannot be his mentee.
Liz talks to Pete and Cerie about her father. Cerie says that whenever older guys hit on her, she asks, "Who's younger, me or your daughter?"
Jenna asks Jack about her obit problem and this gets Jack thinking about her being a mentee. She says she's going to make her own obit thereby failing Jack's test.
Jack and Liz run into each other in the hall and have an awkward dialogue. Clearly Jack misses her as his mentee.
Liz wears a disguise and tries to pick up her dad at Swingles. She is trying to prove a point that her 80-year-old married father shouldn't be there but it blows up in her face.
Jenna records her obit.
While talking with Kenneth about ways to improve his legacy, Tracy sees that a life-saving cat is about to be on the Today Show. If he can save this cat, he argues, he will be a double hero. "Ken, I need your help."
Jack investigates Avery and quickly realizes that she is far too put together to need his help. He tells her that basically Liz is the perfect mentee. Another terrible mentee candidate walks into Jack's office and Avery leaves with a sigh.
The plan is for a masked Kenneth to attack the cat with a hammer and have a samurai sword-wielding Tracy save the day. Kenneth heads to the studio while Tracy hears that his performance in his latest indie movie should earn him an Oscar. Tracy thinks an Academy Award is just what his career needs and he forgets about Kenneth. Ultimately Jenna saves the cat and takes all of the praise.
Avery reunites Liz and Jack, realizing they both need the relationship. Immediately Liz gives Jack his phone and he calls Dick. Jack pretends to be a jilted boyfriend of a woman Dick picked up and threatens him with bodily harm unless he returns home to his wife. Problem solved.
