- Melinda Gordon: [panicked, seeing Aiden about to fall to his death] This just has to be a vision. This isn't real, right?
- Delia Banks: [calmly] Only you know the answer to that.
- Melinda Gordon: Can you understand how these conversations make me want to wring your non-existent neck?
- Carl Sessick: Can you understand that I'm already bending the rules just by BEING here?
- Carl Sessick: You need to do what you need to do, not what I tell you.
- Melinda Gordon: Well, the good thing is - you didn't tell me anything.
- Carl Sessick: If you say so.
- Delia Banks: You know what, Ned? I am so thrilled that you are getting straight As in goblins and ghouls, but not everything is a plot from beyond our dimension.
- Melinda Gordon: I can help you.
- Seth Farber: [mockingly] "I can help you." Why don't you mind your own business?
- Melinda Gordon: Look, if you could just talk to me, we can figure out what we need to do to get you into the light.
- Seth Farber: The light? What do you know about the light?
- Melinda Gordon: I know that it's peaceful, and the spirits belong there.
- Seth Farber: You're wrong. The light steals people. It takes them away forever.
- Carl Sessick: I'm not joking, Melinda. I'm watching. I'm looking out.
- Melinda Gordon: For what?
- Carl Sessick: Some ghosts call them The Winds of Shame. Some call them The Night Shriekers. Little ghosts call them The Cold Things.
- Melinda Gordon: You mean The Shadows.
- Carl Sessick: He's in danger, Melinda. Your son is in danger.
- Melinda Gordon: No. Once I cross this ghost over...
- Carl Sessick: Melinda,
- [pause]
- Melinda Gordon: It's not gonna be over. Why does he threaten them so much?
- Carl Sessick: They're like birds of prey. They feed by striking at things that can't see them. That's the key to their power.
- Melinda Gordon: And Aiden, he... he can take that away just by seeing them?
- Carl Sessick: He exposes them, and then they're weaker. They won't tolerate that, and you've seen what they're willing to do to their enemies.
- Melinda Gordon: So what can I do?
- Carl Sessick: I think you know that... deep down.
- Melinda Gordon: HOW would I know that?
- Carl Sessick: Because it's what happens to everyone. They see ghosts, and then they don't.
- Melinda Gordon: So what you're saying is that I can... fix this if I make Aiden not see ghosts.
- Carl Sessick: Or Shadows. Or Shinies.
- Melinda Gordon: How can I do that?
- Carl Sessick: I told you. It happens to everyone - when children are told what they see isn't real. Pretty soon they stop seeing it.
