- Open with Finn (Cory Monteith) making himself a grilled cheese on the George Foreman,because his mom wasn't there. The top comes out looking a little Jesus-like and Finn cut off the half and refers to it as Grilled Chessus. He prays to it and asks for the team to win its first football game in exchange for honoring him in Glee. The team wins.
We see Kurt (Chris Colfer) brings his dad Burt (Mike O'Malley) some healthy lunch at work. He's worried about his father's diet. They argue over Kurt not being able to make the next Friday night dinner. Burt says he's disappointed in his son.
Finn asks Will (Matthew Morrison) if they can pay tribute to Jesus this week with music. There seems to be a mixed reaction from the kids. Will counters with focusing on spirituality. Puck (Mark Salling) gets up and performs Billy Joel's "Only The Good Die Young."
We see Burt attending a person at work when he feel a littel pain,but say was nothing so he falled and got a heart attack and get inconsient.
At the hospital, Kurt is told his father had a heart attack and is now in a coma. The doctor doesn't sound positive. Kurt takes his father's hand and asks him to squeeze back but nothing happens.
Finn next asks Grilled Cheesus for help getting to second base with Rachel (Lea Michele).
At school, the kids console Kurt. Finn has just found out about Burt and is upset. Mercedes' message to Kurt comes in the form of a performance of Whitney Houston's "I Look To You." Afterwards, Kurt tells everyone, he doesn't believe in God and doesn't want their prayers.
Sue (Jane Lynch) brings Will to Figgins (Iqbal Theba) with a complaint about his talking about religion in a public school,who is wrong.
Rachel talks to Finn about wanting them to raise their children Jewish. He says that's fine with him and this leads to them fooling around.
Sue finds out Kurt isn't into the religious thing and asks him file acomplaint about Will talking about spirituality in class.
Emma (Jayma Mays) wants to know why Sue would bother Kurt during such a tough time. The response is when her big sister Jean was made fun of, she prayed for her to get better. When nobody listened, she stopped believing.
Will tells the kids they can no longer sing songs about God during school time.
Finn asks Grilled Cheesus to make him quarterback again. Puck walks in on him and asks what Finn's been praying for.He said that he is praying before eating now,and by Burt
That night Rachel sings "Papa Can You Hear Me?" while outside with Finn. This transitions to Kurt watching some of the kids praying by Burt's bedside with the blessing of Carole (Romy Rosemont), Finn's mom.
At the next game Finn suggests a different play than what Beiste (Dot-Marie Jones) called. The result is Sam separating his shoulder and Finn will be the next quarterback.
Kurt addresses the club with news there is no change in Burt's condition. He dedicates "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" to his father and we see flashbacks of memories he has of Burt.
The next day, Mercedes (Amber Riley) says she doesn't know how to be around him anymore and is upset he's closing himself off from positive experiences. She invites him to attend her church with her this Sunday. The service is being dedicated to his father.
Finn confesses to Emma that he is to blame for Sam's injury because of his prayers to Grilled Cheesus. She explains the actual reason for the various events. This seems to bother Finn and he breaks into REM's "Losing My Religion." He tells the club he's no longer sure if anyone's looking out for him.
At Mercedes' church, she leads the choir in a performance of "Bridge Over Troubled Water."
Sue asks Jean whether she believes in God. Jean says she doesn't believe God makes mistakes.
Kurt talks to his father about several memories and takes his hand. He says he doesn't believe in God but he believe in him and their relationship. At this point his father squeezes his hand slightly and Kurt yells for the nurse.
The entire club sings "What If God Was One Of Us." Finn eats Grilled Cheesus.
