Synopsis

  • WELCOME TO...CUL-DE-SAC CREW (nah)...COUGAR CITY (lame)...COUGAR TOWN (sticking with it)

OK, guess which members of the Cul-de-Sac Crew are morning people. If you said Jules (Courteney Cox), Laurie (Busy Philipps), and Andy (Ian Gomez), you would be correct, although Laurie learned to wake up swinging after being in foster homes and sleeping in strange beds most of her life. (both fascinating and disturbing). Ellie's (Christa Miller) nanny calls from across the yard to say little Stan was crying. Ellie is tired of trying to raise him and complains to Jules...this despite Jules reminding her she raised Travis (Dan Byrd) with no money and Bobby (Brian Van Holt) never around, while Ellie had a nanny, a doting husband, and plenty of cash. And Ellie still wouldn't back down from her opinion because Jules was in her 20's and full of energy when she raised Travis. It's harder to raise a kid in your 40's, according to Ellie. Jules thinks she can do it, and it is on. Jules gets to take care of Stan for a day without a nanny. If only she had some diapers.

While Laurie gets Andy as a volunteer to be her wingman at a club (assuming Ellie lets him), Grayson (Josh Hopkins) and Bobby are off to play golf at 5:30 in the morning. There's a great course Bobby can practice on for his event for free if he gets there before 6 AM. However, he keeps oversleeping, and even Dog Travis isn't much help. Grayson almost sneaks out before Jules bolts up with her daily routine of twenty questions for him. Laurie wakes up swinging, and Travis wakes up in his dorm room getting cozy with his hamper, just like he got freaky once with the Christmas tree when he was 12. Bobby makes it to the course a few minutes late, but that won't stop him...from falling asleep at the golf cart wheel and driving it into a pond...with Grayson in it. Travis offers to get him up in time, but Bobby insists on doing it himself. But since Bobby wants to help Travis even when he doesn't ask for it, Travis figures he can do the same thing.

Jules gets the instruction list from Ellie's nanny, complete with epi-pen because he's allergic to everything, including Telemundo for some reason. Stan needs a bath and gets a little mean if he gets wet, so Jules calls Grayson to take care of giving Stan a bath. Naturally she lies and says she wants some "afternoon action," and now Grayson knows why men cheat. Also, babies do need their nails clipped on occasion. As the day went on, Jules found out raising a kid in your 40's is harder. Even Big Carl wasn't helping her.

JULES: When you were a baby, I was too dumb to care. I told you to go hide, and instead of trying to find you, I'd watch TV and call my girlfriends.

TRAVIS: And that explains my deep distrust towards women.

GRAYSON: Don't ever lose that, buddy.

Unfortunately, Stan was a bit wired on chocolate-covered espresso beans, which Grayson thought were raisins, and suddenly Travis had Stan in his arms.

Laurie and Andy start in a wine bar, which sounds weird except the entire block of clubs becomes one big party once a month. Andy's two rules of being a wingman: 1) stand behind Laurie if she's dancing alone and scream DAMN! a lot, as ass-worshipping is very crucial, and 2) his night is not done until she gets some. The party starts up, only Ellie is having the seven minutes a day when she's not a nasty person and decides those minutes were right then. Andy couldn't turn down the nice Ellie minutes...but they got used up quickly. Laurie gets lost in the crowd, and Andy can't find her. He goes back to the wine bar where they started, and Andy discovered the techno noise didn't filter into the bar. He liked that. But after too much body spray and the crowd knowing all the lyrics to a Miley Cyrus song, Laurie bailed out. (can't blame her) She's upset for not liking clubs anymore, but Andy correctly deduced she was totally in love with Smith, and techno clubs will be a little more lame once you had what you wanted in life. Laurie tries to go back out into the music to prove him wrong but can't. They go to a coffee shop, where a cute guy overhears them talking. Andy gets up for coffee, and the guy admits he was eavesdropping on Laurie and her father. He admitted not going to clubs anymore but could still hook up. He goes to the pub for food, the coffee house for coffee, and his place to get some action. Laurie goes to the pub for food, the coffee house for coffee, and his place to get some action. And for the first time in a long time, she proudly takes the walk of shame home.

Grayson builds a play prison...sorry, fort...for Stan to keep him in one place. Ellie warns them from across the way Stan can get out of anything. Which is true, except for the locked pantry where Jules put all of her knives, alcohol, and fireplace lighter. Grayson and Jules can't get Stan to unlock the door, but a few goldfish crackers from Ellie and he opens that puppy right up. Ellie is feeling very self-righteous, but Grayson accepts the challenge and says he and Jules can handle the rest of the night. Naturally, they can't. Stan is up all night crying, but Grayson wants to see it through. Sure enough, Stan finally stops crying...at 5 AM. Jules and Grayson revel in their victory. But Ellie uses her daily seven minutes of nice to hug Jules and thank her for taking care of Stan. Grayson is still playing with him, even saying he wants one of them someday. And Jules definitely needs some wine at this early hour.
