- Open with several happy snippets of the family waking up one morning: Marshall is at Sandi's place, Neil and Charmaine enjoy coffee in bed together and Kate is with Evan and his son. Then we see Bryce is still very much in control of Tara.
Max is in the kitchen and hears a voice calling to him from behind the counter. It's Buck, asking him for a final beer before Bryce picks him off. Buck says his good-byes and gives instructions for his funeral before chugging the beer.
Max brings all of Buck's guns over to Charmaine's place for safekeeping. He tells her Bryce gave him a gory account of killing Buck. Charmaine asks Max when they should think about having Tara committed. Max says he doesn't have any faith in the local mental health community and assures her that Tara will return. Charmaine isn't sure he can handle it this time.
After Max leaves Neil tells Charmaine he thinks they should sell the house and move to Houston, primarily because "your sister is a child molester."
After pulling out a 40-year old fruitcake she's been hanging onto, Sandi tells Marshall that he has to love his mother, "no matter how crazy you thinks she is."
Max tells Bryce the life he wants is with his wife. He responds that Tara doesn't deserve him. At this point Marshall and Sandi arrive to help with crisis management. Bryce has choice insults for both of them. Kate then shows up and immediately gets hit on by Bryce. After Bryce heads upstairs Max tells them to stick together as a family unit and try to do family stuff. The plan is to take Bryce to Tara's favorite place, the art museum.
At the museum Charmaine shows Max a brochure for a place offering around-the-clock psychiatric care. Max doesn't want to put her in an asylum. Kate seems surprised Charmaine thinks her mother needs to be locked up.
Sandi tells Max "crazy is no good for anybody" and points out that Bryce is humping a sculpture.
Bryce comes into the bathroom while Max and Neil are using the urinals. Max tries to kiss Bryce and he runs out disgusted.
Outside the museum T tells Kate she's about to go and apologizes for hitting her. She says Tara's head is pretty much empty and transitions to Bryce, who promptly tells her T is now dead.
Max, Kate and Marshall talk about the next step. Kate wonders if maybe Charmaine is right about Tara needing full-time help. Bryce makes fun of Sandi while she sets up some of her Christmas stuff.
After rocking Wheels to sleep Neil pulls out one of Buck's porno magazines. Inside he finds a printout from FindThatGrave.web. Highlighted is a section showing the death announcement for Bryce Craine, who passed away on Christmas Day, 2002.
After barricading themselves in Kate's room, Kate and Marshall discuss what to do about Tara. Kate thinks the same approach isn't working. They talk about whether they'll ever return once they leave home for good. Neither seems sure.
Bryce asks Sandi what she's doing there. Sandi turns it around on him. Sandi apologizes for missing Max and Tara's wedding, blaming it on agoraphobia. Sandi then tells Bryce everything bad that's happened to Tara's family is his family and warns him if he touches her tree "I'll break your *#@%ing fingers." Max sneaks up behind Bryce and covers him with a blanket.
Max, Neil and Charmaine take Bryce to Bryce Craine's actual grave, attempting to show him the paradox of him being there while also being dead. Charmaine starts spitting and cursing the gravestone and Neil has to lead her away. Bryce says he doesn't believe that's really Bryce Craine in the ground. Max assures him that he shot himself in the head on Christmas because he couldn't live with what he'd done. Max yells that he wants his wife back. Bryce responds that Tara wanted the abuse to happen, which is the reason she never told anyone.
The next morning Sandi tells Max he shouldn't have to go through all of the stuff with Bryce. She tells him that he needs to leave Tara, saying the only mistake her husband made leaving her was abandoning Max.
Bryce spots the pictures and letters Marshall kept from Lionel and makes fun of him. Marshall tells Bryce he doesn't know what love is and assures him that he's not scared of him. At this point Alice shows up and tells Marshall how proud she is of him. Bryce arrives quickly and slaps Marshall across the face. He says he'd just executed Alice and the only one left is Tara. Marshall tackles Bryce and the two wrestle before Max runs in and pulls Bryce off. Max puts Bryce up against a wall and he appears to turn back Tara. Tara looks at Marshall and cries.
Cut to Max and Tara in the car on the way the psychiatric care facility. She wonders if it'll work this time and he assures it it will only be for a short. Max says he's not going anyplace. The cross a bridge and she tells him to stop the car. She kisses him and runs over the edge of the bride. Before Max can get to Tara she's jumped off. He yells "f$#@!" as the episode ends.
