Bill Forchion has toured with Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus and performed with Cirque du Soleil. But this one hour documentary from Dreamcatcher Entertainment is not about him. It is a backstage view of the circus world at New England Center for Circus Arts in Brattleboro, Vermont as a class of 13 aspiring athletic entertainers train to develop their individual passions and strengths. I felt I had a backstage pass into the rehearsal studios and got to see the performers as they go through group exercises and learn to trust each other. And we get an idea of what the students are thinking as they each individually respond to challenging questions about their aspirations and training.
At a student show I remember seeing Eric and Kevin perform this act that involved incredible catches and balancing and it was most impressive. When this film showed Kevin in a safety harness working up the routine with Eric, I got a sense of how hard these guys train before performing in front of an audience. I have seen members of this circus class involved in performances at the school and also part of dance performances down the hall at Luminz Dance and Performing Arts Center. I've always wondered what goes into training and this film really gives a behind the scenes, before the final act, look.
