Synopsis

  • Betty is filling in for Amanda after Amanda quit Mode to pursue her styling career. Daniel offers to hire a temp, but Betty says that she doesn't mind. Betty asks Daniel if he'll go to Hilda's wedding with her, and Daniel accpets, although he has to cancel a date with his new girlfriend. Betty makes a face, and Daniel asks why she's so down on his newest catch. Betty says that she seems really sweet but sort of makes Daniel dumb. While filing, Betty finds a photo of herself sleeping in Amanda's drawer, realising that the photo was quite a recent shot too. Daniel laughs and says that he'll miss Amanda being around, which is the exact moment Amanda storms in.

Amanda snatches the photo from Betty's hand and go about Mode stealing pens and other stationery, even a phone off someone's desk. Marc approaches her and reminds Amanda that she no longer works here. Amanda says she knows, but she needs some supplies now that she has her first client, Spencer Cannon, who's a soap opera actor. Marc sees Troy and becomes really nervous, even commenting that Troy's new pants "really make his package pop". Feeling a bit awkward, Troy thanks him and walks off. Marc is left feeling sad that Troy has left him for a "nerd", and comments that he loved Troy in his own standoffish way.

Justin comes out of the elevator and asks Marc if he can talk to him about something important. They sit in the closet in silence while Justin thinks of what to say. Finally he blurts out that Bobby's going to say something and everyone's going to find out. Marc is confused, and Justin explains that Bobby walked in on him and Austin kissing. Marc smiles and asks if Austin is Justin's boyfriend. Justin says he doesn't know, but he doesn't see the point of everyone else knowing. Marc points out the bright side that Justin has a boyfriend (when he doesn't), and that if he doesn't want anyone to know, then they don't have to know. He reassures Justin that Bobby is a good guy and he's not going to say anything, and even if it did come out, Justin's mom would understand. Justin insists that he doesn't want his family to know, and Marc says he doesn't need to say anything until he's ready.

Amanda drops by Betty's desk while Betty's in the middle of taking down a phone message with the earrings she promised Hilda for her wedding, and some diet pills because she believes Hilda should be beautiful like a corpse bride. Betty thanks her and tells her that since Amanda's being so helpful, she should bring a plus one because some of Betty's family members can't come. Betty continues with checking for the next phone message and is suprised to hear Henry's voice. She is further surprised by the fact that Henry's accepting her offer to be her plus one to Hilda's wedding. Henry continues by saying that it was perfect timing because he's going to New York anyway. Betty is bewildered, but suddenly flashes back to her drunken night in London. Amanda's client messages her and she runs off, leaving Betty in her confused and regretful condition.

Tyler is hungover at Wilhelmina's flat. He angrily states that he's going over to Mode to demand his shares of Meade. Wilhelmina suggests that the Meade made Tyler lose his sobriety and that by gaining his shares, he'll be tied to them indefinitely. Tyler says that he'll just sell his shares, but Wilhelmina reminds him that it'll be hard to find buyers. Tyler is frustrated and yells that he just wants his money and go home. To calm him down, Wilhelmina slyly says that she'll buy his shares since she's so used to dealing with the Meades. Tyler looks grateful and asks if Wilhelmina if she'd really do that for him. She shrugs her shoulders and claims that a few more shares won't make a difference to her. She then continues the act by locking up the liquor and walks away. But after she's gone, Tyler pulls out a bottle under the couch and continues drinking.

Daniel and Betty are discussing her drunk dialing Henry. Daniel says there must be a reason why she drunk called him, but Betty says she really doesn't know why. Betty tells Daniel that there's more to it, that she invited Henry to the wedding as her date. Daniel asks if Betty is uninviting him, because he cancelled plans for her. Betty quickly says no, that Hilda wants Daniel to be there. She suggests that he could bring Trista (the new girlfriend), and he reluctantly agrees.

Betty calls Hilda and leaves a message saying that everything has been sorted out and that she's going to the wedding with Henry and Daniel's going with Trista. Just before she hangs up she bumps into Lindsay Dunne. She's surprised and asks him why he's not in London. He replies that he's here to see Betty, and believes that Betty is perfect for running a new magazine he's going to set up. Betty is shocked, in a happy way, but is suddenly dragged down to earth when Lindsay says the magazine will be established in London.

Betty tells Hilda that Lindsay's going back to London on the day after the wedding, and he wants an answer by then. Hilda comments that Betty is having quite a day, and then lowers her voice to a menacing whisper and says that if Betty upstages her wedding she will stab her in the heart. Betty tells Hilda to eat something, and tells her that she won't be taking the job because it's less money and it's in London. Hilda says it's up to Betty and that she has to go since she's got a million things to do now that Justin isn't helping much because he spends all his time with Austin. At that moment, Henry walks in with his little toddler and waves at Betty.

Amanda is trying out clothes with her new client, Spencer. They find that they have a lot in common, and Amanda says that there was something about Spencer that made her instantly like him, but not in a physical way because he's too old and too gay for her. She suddenly gets the idea to set Spencer up with Marc, and Spencer seems quite keen on it.

While Betty is playing with Henry's son, Henry is complimenting her on her great work. Betty explains about the drunken message, and says that she's glad he's coming to Hilda's wedding, but she's a little nervous about what he might read into it, like starting up again. Betty says it was so complicated before, with all those obstacles, and trails off, leaving the hint that she's not really up for the idea. Henry changes the topic and tells her that the reason he's here is because he has a job interview at a big law firm tomorrow. He's pretty certain he'll get the job, implying that he'll be moving back to New York. He adds that maybe it wasn't such a bad thing that Betty's not taking the London offer, and invites Betty out to breakfast the next day. Betty accepts and they share a smile.

Betty is walking Henry and his son out through Mode's hallway and walks into Daniel. Daniel says he heard Henry was staying for a while, and Henry tells him that he's actually here for an interview. Before he leaves, Henry confirms that he'll see Betty for their breakfast date tomorrow. Daniel asks Betty what's going on and Betty says it's not really a date, just a breakfast. Daniel conveys his concern about Betty getting hurt, but Betty says she's not going down that road again, and whatever road she's on is totally new. Daniel looks unconvinced.

Justin is going out of the house when Hilda asks him what kind of tie he'd prefer. Justin says he doesn't mind which and goes off to meet Austin. Hilda asks him where he's going and Justin says nowhere and practically runs out the door. Hilda is confused and asks Bobby why everything Justin does with Austin is so secretive. Bobby feels the weight of the secret and babbles on about how they're both good kids and nothing's going on. Hilda asks him if he knows something, and Bobby denies it, but Hilda doesn't believe him. She forces him to tell her, but Bobby refuses to break his promise to Justin. Hilda jumps to the conclusion that the two boys are on drugs, but Bobby tells her that they're not. Hilda says that if it's not drugs then why is Justin spending all his time with another boy and keeping his bedroom door closed when they're in there together. She suddenly realises that what Justin's real secret is, and Bobby tells her that she didn't hear it from him.

Claire is suffering from a headache in her office when Tyler walks in. He drunkenly accuses Claire of lying to him, and Claire apologises but refuses to talk to him when he's been drinking. Tyler demands his shares of Meade, and when Claire says he doesn't mean it, Tyler smashes the glass cabinet with Daniel's photo inside. He tells Claire that she knows nothing about him, that she got rid of him, and he better make the shares happen or else he'll ask Hartley for it and he knows that's the last thing Claire wants.
