- The partners try to keep their cool after they discover that Roger has lost their biggest account, Peter's wife goes into labor, and Don tries to convince Faye to compromise her ethics to drum up new business.
- Despite Peggy's less than friendly last encounter with Abe, the two begin a relationship following a chance social outing with Joyce. Stan can smell Peggy's resulting sexual energy. Unaware of Abe, Stan tries to exploit what he sees as Peggy's want for sex. And Trudy has gone into labor. But as Peggy states, when something good happens, something bad always happens. The bad is the rumor of Lucky Strike abandoning SCDP, which comes into the firm through the back door i.e. not from Roger, the one and only person in the firm dealing with that account. But once the rumor spreads amongst the partners, Roger does confirm the rumor but does whatever he can to hide the fact that he's known about Lucky Strike leaving for some time. The loss of this account potentially could mean the end of SCDP, especially if this news makes current and potential clients feel uncertain about SCPD's future. The partners try to put on a brave face to the staff, who are asked to be more diligent than ever with current accounts. This news has an affect on all staff, including in their personal life, and on Joan and Roger's relationship. Desperate times call for desperate measures as the partners try to exploit a grieving family, and Don tries to exploit a personal relationship. Despite Roger's denial of any wrongdoing with the account, he takes the brunt of the blame internally, which dampens the joy of a parcel waiting for him at home.—Huggo
- The principals at SCDP finally learn that they've lost the Lucky Strike account, though not from Roger Sterling but from Ken Cosgrove who runs into a competitor at dinner. With Lane Pryce away in London, an urgent meeting is called of all the partners but Roger plays dumb saying it's the first time he's heard of it. Everyone in the firm goes all out to find new accounts and make sure they keep the accounts they have. Roger meanwhile is feeling sorry for himself and confides in Joan. Peggy meanwhile hooks up with Abe Drexler and their relationship seems to have some promise. Trudi Campbell gives birth to a baby girl and Pete, egged on by his father-in-law, begins to question his future at the firm.—garykmcd

Peggy is leaving Jones Beach with Joyce and some friends when Abe gets in the car. She has to sit on his lap because it's so crowded. Apparently, it was a good car ride because she invites him home and they get it on.
Ken is out to dinner with his fiancee and future in-laws when John Flory from BBDO happens by. Ken pulls him off to the side and Flory tells him about Lucky Strike leaving SCDP.
Ken goes to hospital where Trudy is in labor and tells Pete. Pete calls Don, who has just come home from a date with Faye. Don calls Roger and they all meet up with Bert in the office. Roger playacts a call with Lee Garner, Jr. He promises to be on the first flight to Raleigh-Durham to speak to him.
Don returns home and tells Faye. She tries to comfort him by saying he's the most hirable man on Madison Avenue. He's not there yet, he says.
Pete returns to the hospital and tells his father in law, who immediately says it's time for Pete to call an end to this folly and get a real job at a real firm and go work for Ted Shaw. Pete says he hates him and Shaw only wants him to hobble Don.
Abe tries to leaves Peggy in the morning and she tries to be nonchalant and she then entices him back to bed. Says she's not usually like this.
The next morning the phone rings at SCDP and Roger tells Bert it's over. He's actually in New York hotel.
The firm calls an all hands meeting to break the news. Bert reads the info from a memo. Don then tells them the Lucky Strike news will be handled by Pete and Ken and that it's been a good year and that nothing should or will change and will push themselves and succeed ten-fold. Peggy is walking on a cloud as she arrives to the meeting late. Freddy and Stan kind of fill her in.
Don calls Freddy, Peggy, Danny, and Stan into his office. He says Creative needs to be on it's toes in order to keep clients. Don tells Peggy he's counting on her. She frets that she's paying a price for her night of bliss.
Roger calls Joan. She commiserates. He says he needs to see her and comes clean about knowing Garner's deal and that he's still in New York. She's livid and mad that he waited to tell her. He tells her to come after work to the Statler. She says she'll see.
Peg talks about her Playtex presentation with Danny and how Don is always so poetic. She works on a presentation talking about how Playtex gloves keeps women's hands soft to touch the things they want to touch. She rhapsodizes sexily about touching men in different ways. Abe shows up pretending to be a deliveryman with a COD package. Danny and Stan talk about how Peggy is "giving it off." Stan attributes it to the "last days of Rome" vibe.
Harry, Ken, Pete, and Bert meet about keeping old clients happy. Pete is sleeping. Joan arrives with preliminary financial news from Lane, saying they have about 22 million sans Lucky. He's on his way he said. Bert points out that with the recent death of a rival account executive that some clients will be vulnerable. Megan tells Don that Glo-Coat on the phone.
Don goes to his office and takes the call and Al from Glo-Coat tells him they're taking their business elsewhere. Don tries to convince him to stay pointing out how the commercial helped their business and gets hot around the collar, but Glo-Coat man is unresponsive saying it's just business and hopes they can work together again if SCDP is still around. Don says they will be. He then busts the Clio he won for the Glo-Coat ad. Megan runs in and Don says he's fine but needs a favor and to not let him overdo the booze and to stop him at three drinks.
Back in the meeting Pete reports complications with the delivery and that Trudy might need a C-section. Don comes in mad at Pete about Glo-Coat. Pete and Don argue about his commitment and Pete is aghast.
Abe leaves and Stan notices how long he was there.
Pete heads back to the hospital and is annoyed to see Ted Shaw is there. He immediately gives the push for Pete to start CGC and even dangles a partnership in front of him.
Joan answers her door and it's Roger, who immediately kisses her. She tries to stop him and says they need to talk. She says she can't do this anymore but he insists she's just saying that and that they belong together. She says she's not a solution to his problems, she's another problem. She apologizes. She consents to a hug. As he leaves he says he wishes he'd known that the night they were mugged was the last time they'd be together.
Faye arrives at the office late night to visit Don. She asks if he's okay. He's a little brusque but consents to a kiss. He says the day was miserable. He asks how she deals with rejection. She says her job is to present the facts, if the clients don't like the agency it's not her problem. He asks which clients might be unhappy. She points out that he knows that ethically she can't talk about her work with other firms. He points out he's drowning. She can't believe he's asking her to do such a thing, and that he wants to use her in such a way. He says he would do it for her. She says she'd never ask because she knows the difference between work and what they have. She stalks out.
Peggy is freaking out about the Playtex meeting. Stan offer to show her a technique he learned for a yogi. He has her do some deep breathing and then kisses her. He tries to put the moves on her and can't believe she doesn't want it given what she did with the delivery boy. She points out that was her boyfriend. She asks why he keeps making her reject him. He says he was trying to do her a favor. She thanks him and says she isn't anxious anymore.
The partners meet in Roger's office and he talks about getting out the business. When he hears about the death of the rival account exec he calls it a silver lining. Pete points out their trying to get new accounts. Don wonders if Roger remembers that. Roger says not to pile on and that saving the Lucky Strike account was impossible. Don says it's because Roger ignored it. Roger tries to defend himself and says he got into this whole business out of friendship to Don. Megan comes in with the news that Pete's daughter was born and all is well. They congratulate Pete. He and Don leave for the account executive's funeral. Roger tries to commiserate with Bert and Bert says Lee Garner, Jr. never took Roger seriously because Roger never took himself seriously.
Stan and Peggy ready themselves for the meeting. He asks if there are no hard feelings and she says no. She asks if she looks okay and even though she has lipstick on her teeth he says "absolutely."
Don, Freddy, and Pete attend the account exec's funeral and a friend/colleague eulogizes him while they strategize on who to schmooze at the party. Don takes note of the widow and and his daughter.
Peggy gives her presentation. The Playtex guys love it. One guy keeps licking his teeth to signal Peggy but she doesn't get it. They love it and leave. Peggy says it went well and Harry points out that she has lipstick all over her teeth. She stares at Stan who gives a little smile. But instead of getting mad, as he leaves she gives a little smile of her own, realizing what the Playtex guy was trying to tell her.
Don returns to the office to find Megan still there. He asks for Peggy and has a drink while he waits. Someone has put his Clio back together. It was Megan, she thought in the end he wouldn't want to throw it away. He says she's wrong. She brings in some files and says Peggy's gone for the day. She offers her help and says she wants to learn what goes on here so one day she could do what Peggy and Don do. She takes a seat and he shows her the files, strategy statements. They chat a bit about her background. She's from Montreal and considers herself an artistic person who's dabbled in writing, painting, and a little bit of acting. She laughs that she knows everything about him and he knows nothing about her. She knows that he doesn't know how long she'll be there so why would he bother? He figures that's what everyone must think he thinks. She says she understands that he judges people on their work, she does too and says that everything else is sentimental. He asks if she wants a drink and she asks, while touching his arm, how many he's had. He admits four. She says she knows he's angry but hopes he isn't afraid because he will get through this. He says she doesn't know that. She asks why he cares what she thinks. They kiss. He stops and says he doesn't think it's a good idea. She says it has nothing to do with work. He says he can't make any mistakes right now. She says she's not going to run out there crying tomorrow, she just wants him right now. He crawls on top of her on the couch.
Roger arrives home and Jane asks about his day. He says he's really tired. She has him sit with her on the couch and brings over a box. It's copies of his book "Sterling's Gold." She asks him to sign one for her. "To my loving wife," he writes. They kiss. She cuddles him and says she's so proud of him. He looks miserable.
Don and Megan get dressed. She says she should go out first. He asks if she wants to grab a bite. She tells him to go home, sleep, and not drink anymore. They kiss. She says "goodnight, Mr. Draper" as he leaves first.
As he arrives home Faye is there. She was sliding a note under the door. She said she was going to call but didn't want to "do this" over the phone. He lets her in. She tells him she got him a meeting with Heinz. She said she thought about what he said, and thought about him and what he is in her life right now. He says she didn't have to do this. She says she wanted to. She kisses him and he looks sheepish and thanks her. He asks if she wants to stay and that he'll probably fall asleep on her. She asks him to just sit with her. She pulls his arm over her shoulder, just like Jane just did with Roger. They both look tired and troubled.
