Goofs

Margin Call

Edit

Continuity

When driving home from the office, Sam is seen in his car wearing a different dress shirt than the one he wore in the office. After being called back, he is again wearing the shirt he wore during the day. Then, the next business day he is wearing the one he wore in the car the night before.
In the boardroom meeting scene, before John asks Carmello to find Eric Dale for him, the chair at the foot of the table is empty. Then when John talks to Carmello, he appears in the chair that was empty in the earlier frame.
When Will, Peter and Seth are eating breakfast an edition of 'The Economist' can be seen on Will's desk from the week of September 20, 2008, entitled "What's next?", referring to the financial crisis. However Peter is then seen reading an edition of 'The Economist' from the week April 26, 2008, entitled "The rise of the Gulf".
When Sam is outside smoking before the big day, Sam's hands are in his pockets and the cigarette he was just smoking disappears.
When Heather Burke (Ashley Williams) asks Peter Sullivan (Zachary Quinto) if he is Eric Dale, she is carrying a clipboard. When she gets to Eric Dale's office, she no longer has the clipboard.

Factual errors

The use of rooftop helipads in NYC was banned after a 1977 crash at the Pan Am Building.
Financial institutions of that magnitude always have high profile security setups. No computer screen could be unlocked if the employee is away. Even if the person forgot to lock it while leaving, automated security settings would lock the screen after a defined period of time.
Investment banks have measures in place to prevent anything from being copied to a USB drive, specifically to keep proprietary data from "walking out of the building".
Steven Spielberg's name is misspelled in the "Special Thanks" section of the closing credits.
When Eric Dale is cleaning out his office, the security person is standing outside his office looking away. In reality, he would be inside checking every item Eric wanted to take with him.

Revealing mistakes

Jared asks Ramesh "What time is it?", Ramesh checks his wristwatch and says "2:15". A few moments later, the actor puts the hand to his mouth, revealing the face of the watch, and it shows a different time than 2:15.
Seth is sitting on the toilet seat, his legs perpendicular to the floor with his feet very close to the door which means that the toilet seat would be too close to the door and would not be able to open fully.

Miscellaneous

Spelling error in end credits: in the copyright information, the credits say, "Country of First Publiscation" (at 1:46:11).

Errors in geography

Eric Dale's bridge, between Dilles Bottom, Ohio, and Moundsville, West Virginia, is the Moundsville Bridge - that is real. However, he says "It cut out 35 miles each way of extra driving to get from Wheeling to New Martinsville." Since both Wheeling and New Martinsville are in WV, this doesn't make sense. Wheeling and New Martinsville are the two closest crossings to the Moundsville Bridge, so it's likely someone got their notes confused.
The building that the movie takes place in is 1 Penn Plaza. When Sam and Peter are outside talking while Sam smokes, they are on 33rd Street. They are then seen coming up the escalator to the building, but there isn't an escalator from the street. Even if they somehow went downstairs, the escalator they are on is from the LIRR Concourse on the 34th Street side of the building.

Character error

Eric Dale (Stanley Tucci) makes a mathematical error when he talks about how much time is saved by people using the bridge he built. He says 559,020 days are saved, but the correct number is 5,590,200.
