- Martin Stillman: May I ask the honorable judge a few questions pertaining to this farcical judicial hearing to be held in this town?
- Judge Rensen: I resent your tone and your implication.
- Martin Stillman: And I resent you permitting that murdering thief Macahan to sit at that table a free man.
- Luke Macahan: Hows, a, Laura and Jessie, aunt Molly?
- Josh Macahan: All fine. Now they had a bad time coming back from Clearwater, but while they were there Jessie and Aunt Molly really enjoyed themselves.
- Luke Macahan: Now what do you mean, bad time?
- Josh Macahan: Ah, stage coach got wrecked, Jessie was lost in the desert for a while, but she's fine now, just fine.
- Clara: We'll just charge you for the dinner and the champagne, Josh. That'll be three dollars for the dinner and seven for the champagne.
- Josh Macahan: Expensive, but it sure is worth it.
- [hands over the money]
- Clara: And, twenty dollars of course, for the gratuity.
- Josh Macahan: Gratuity?
- Clara: Well, let's just call it... hospitality?
- Josh Macahan: Yeah... yeah, I figure a real fancy place like this costs a lot to keep up.
- [hands over more money]
- Tap Henry: You know, you gotta grow yourself a hard shell and learn to wear it. Maybe cry a little bit along the way, but... it ain't gonna help a man none to look back. You know, I just wish that I was strong enough to practice what I preach. I wish that I knew more about the reason that I was put here on the Lord's earth. I think about that a lot. I just hope that sometime before I die, that reason comes to me.
