I was blown away by this short film, which stands on its own, but begs to be expanded to a full narrative version. I do not know of any cinematic treatment of the life of Billy Strayhorn, and this short provides a small glimpse into a big and vital story. The narrative, even in this short, assures that a filmmaker with great discernment, style, writing chops and an aesthetic point of view is in full control. It's got great atmosphere, nuanced performances, and the promise of discovery.
