Mostly satisfying conclusion, though parts were wrapped up a bit too easily.
Parts of this series are very good, and yet others are very frustrating. The pacing Is okay, at times slow but for the most part consistent. The dialog and acting is fine, Spacek and Simmons do all the heavy lifting and are predictably great. Production values are good, as is the cinematography, music and score.
My issues have been with details of the plot. The series went 3-4 episodes with very little happening, slowly working up to developments in the storyline. When we start getting payoffs, often time it's handled poorly and with little nuance. The B-plot, with Stella and Toni suffer from this especially, and don't even get me started on the portal in the Yorks shed.
This is a surprisingly good series, so close to great. Some massaging and tightening of the story and this would be premiere TV. It's funny, I started the series and was.....SO close to putting it down after episode 2, glad I stuck with it. The show reminds me of one of my favorites, The Leftovers, Night Sky is sort of a budget version, with elements of Lost Sci-Fi tossed in. The series is subtle, there is a subtle tone in every aspect of the series and at times that can be overwhelming. Props to Holden Miller, I believe this is his first series and it's really, really well done for a first effort. The series is a real throwback, which is even more surprising given the showrunners age.
