- "NCIS" - "Jetlag" - Jan. 25, 2010
A maid enters the dirty home of someone named Mr. Parsons. She hears a noise, goes to the bathroom, and is scared by the cat jumping out of the tub. She pulls back the curtain and finds Mr. Parsons, dead in the tub covered in what looks like sand with three big Wolverine-type scratches on his face.
Vance enters the office and asks McGee about why he hasn't gotten a call from Dinozzo and Ziva, who are escorting a witness from Paris. McGee says the flight was delayed. Vance wonders if they're not just enjoying Paris. McGee says the two of them are not enjoying Paris or anything else for that matter since they are all bickery and whatnot.
We cut to them in Paris with an impatient Ziva waiting for a late DiNozzo. She wants to go and he rhapsodizes about can-can girls and the Moulin Rouge. She says it's not a vacation. He says it is a nice day though. She's suspicious of his good mood. He said he slept well and wonders if she didn't. He remarks that she looked comfortable. She smiles. He takes some pics and they shove off on his scooter.
At the office Gibbs comes in and says he and McGee are going on a trip of their own, downtown, with Ducky to investigate the Parsons death. He was a special ops Marine. Ducky makes a labored "Psycho" joke. He calls time of death 36-48 hours ago. The scratches are from the cat and it's not sand covering him but kitty litter, which helped mask the decomposition smell. McGee, after investigating the condo, determines it wasn't a robbery. But they are curious how a Marine managed to live in such a nice place on his salary. McGee mentions there is a safe.
Dinozzo and the witness, Nora, are boarding the plane. She's a corporate whistle-blower and very chipper. Ziva greets a federal air marshal who says they're clear for take-off with no known threats on the passenger manifest.
McGee and Gibbs bust into a safe in the Marine's bedroom. Inside a case with expensive watches and a folder with news clippings pertaining to an unsoloved New York real estate mogul murder six months ago. The marine was a hitman for hire, he kept the clippings to make sure the police aren't on to him. They find another dossier and his next hit was supposed to be their whistle blower. But someoody got to him first.
McGee and Gibbs go over Parsons' stuff: known as a good guy, kept to himself, the gun in his safe matched the New York murder. He did his homework on Nora in his prep to kill her. They turn up a fiance.
He comes in and admits to Gibbs and Vance he tried to talk her out of whistle blowing on their boss, Berringer. They met in accounting before she was transferred to Paris and discovered that Berringer was bilking the Navy on bogus foreign contracts. Unfortunately, the documents proving this were lost so Nora's memory is all they've got so their determined to protect her, with their best agents. Her fiance hopes they are, since Nora just wants to do what's right.
DiNozzo is showing Nora his pics and blathering about geometric lines and spacing. She critiques his pictures as soulless without happy people in them. She asks if they went sightseeing together. Ziva says they had enough time together with the flight and the shared hotel room. It was the only one available. Nora says she met her fiance that way traveling on business. Ziva and DiNozzo say inter-office romance is a no-no for them. Ziva wonders how Nora and Daniel do it. Ziva gets a call and says it was Gibbs and McGee asking after Nora. She says there's no problems, deciding not to relay any of the new intel.
Ducky is talking about the etymology of the chandelier crash in "Phantom of the Opera," and how it relates metaphorically to the Marine: it was masquerading as one thing but became another. Ducky blathers on some more about the Phantom, as the Marine also has a "deformation." The cause of death: a broken neck, broken precisely by another hitman.
Abby videophones in and says she found that the place was wiped like it was a pro job but she did get a hit on Parsons' phone, he made one call to someone named Holly Snow.
McGee and Gibbs bring her in, she was a famous DC madame who eluded prosecution. They ask when the love business turned into the death business explaining about Parsons. She said she had nothing to do with his death. They know, they posit she hired him to kill Nora pointing out documents showing how she made money bringing people together online. She says she's a matchmaker, connecting people online, she doesn't know what they're connecting for. She says she's not responsible. He says she's an accessory and wants to know who wanted Nora dead. She doesn't know names but is willing to give the numbers they used to wire her the money. She tries to negotiate for a plea deal. Gibbs balks. She says he'd better hurry since the job was done by a pro and he might have been competing to kill Nora and may still be on his way to do that.
Back on the plane Ziva gets the news from Gibbs about the potential hit man. She tells the marshal that he might be on the plane with an unconventional weapon. (She once killed a guy with a credit card.) The marshal has his eye on one suspicious dude.
DiNozzo trips into Nora, thwarted in his plan to go to the bathroom by the flight attendants. One tries to offer Nora water, DiNozzo asks for a fresh bottle, calling theflight attendant Mr. Spock in the process. Nora realizes that they are really worried about someone killing her. He wonders if that's dimming her sunny disposition. She says that's not enough, maybe because she's in love and that makes her believe people are good at heart.
Vance tells Gibbs says the US attorney's office is balking at giving Holly a deal. Gibbs pushes. McGee says they're running backgrounds on the people on the plane, all of whom are clean, except the US marshal who changed duty to be on that plane. They tell MGee to call Ziva and to not spook the marshal.
She rifles through his bag and he catches her. DiNozzo saves her with a distraction. As Ziva walks by she picks the marshal's pocket. She hands DiNozzo a phone and tells him to ask Abby to run something. Nora notices their great team work. DiNozzo says Ziva's usually snarkier and that perhaps Paris has changed her.
McGee tells Gibbs they have a new problem since Nora's fiance Daniel took a swing at Berringer. Since he's the one they're investigating and trying convict, not so good. He says he lost his temper and apologizes. He said Berringer is taunting him about knowing about Nora, which he thinks means Berringer knows and is the one who hired someone to kill Nora.
Gibbs goes to talk to a very angry Berringer who wonders why NCIS is there. Nora, says Jethro. Why? says Berringer. You tell me, says Gibbs. Berringer says she's a great employee and is sleeping with the idiot who punched him. He claims he doesn't know what else might be up and he's got a company to run.
DiNozzo tells Ziva that Abby didn't find any connection between the marshal and Parsons. Ziva still wants to take his gun and apologize later if necessary. They find him in the bathroom dead, with his gun missing.
Turns out the marshal wanted the earlier flight to get home to his daughter. They're not sure why he was killed but it confirms the killer is on the plane. Vance asks Gibbs about his conversation with Berringer, mad that he had to shake that tree. Now Berringer is worried NCIS is investigating him. In good news, Holly's plea deal has come through.
Ziva cases the plane as the flight attendant announces the lavatory out of order. Nora can't believe the marshal is dead and is starting to freak out. Nora wonders how: knitting needle ot the neck. Nora notices how different Ziva and Tony are. Ziva says they are complementary. Nora wonders if she and Tony really never...? Ziva says definitely not. She wonders why she cares. Nora says she reminds them of herself and Danny and how they met traveling for business. Nope, says Ziva. She slept on the couch because if she didn't she knew DiNozzo would whine about his back. (Hence the smile earlier about sleeping well).
Tony does his Shatner "Twilight Zone" impression for Ducky via laptop video connection in the lavatory. Ducky appreciates the manner in which the marshal was killed, quickly and silently. Ducky wishes for hi-res. Tony takes pics with his camera, but sadly he has to delete some of Paris snaps.
Abby is trying to process the in-flight crime scene. She's got a bloody partial print from the pic of the knitting needle DiNozzo sent.
Gibbs and Vance go back to get info from Holly. She figures her deal is done. They say it still needs a judge's signature. She tells them to come back then. Gibbs drops the folder and says the deal is done. She tries to be all seductive and Gibbs says she better start talking because if Nora dies the deal goes away and they'll add a murder charge to her woes. She writes down the account number.
DiNozzo paces the plane. Nora is sleeping. Ziva and DiNozzo go to look at the guy that the marshal was eyeing, he's acting weird. They grab him, he talks about dropping his CD player and bad seating arrangements with his wife. Of course they were distracted and now Nora approaches them in the aisle wheezing and dying. They wonder how the killer got to her, I'm guessing it was the fact that they left her alone to deal with the harmless guy, which one of them could've handled easily.
DiNozzo calls Ducky in the lab and describes the symptoms: coughing, wheezing, blue, barely breathing. An allergic reaction says Ducky, she needs a shot of epi. There isn't one and the crazy guy gives them him. Ziva worries they can't trust him, DiNozzo says they have no choice. He gives it to her and it helps. Ducky says to keep her on oxygen. They ask how it happened since she didn't eat. Ziva touches the pillow, it was lined with peanut dust, to which Nora was allergic. Ziva now suspects the flight attendant.
Which is good since attendant Tiffany Chase belongs to the print Abby found and she's got a bunch of big deposits. She's been using her job as her hitwoman cover.
McGee reports that they traced the money in the account that Holly gave 'em to a Berringer that only the boss and Nora had access too, so they assume Berringer ordered the hit. But now I'm guessing Danny did it, stealing info from Nora and framing Berringer.
DiNozzo and Ziva take down the attendant. McGee and Gibbs go to arrest Berringer who proclaims innocence. A lightbulb goes off and they chase down Daniel in a parking garage. They shoot at him while he's driving toward them. The car hits them both and then crashes. Gibbs is slightly injured. McGee cuffs Daniel.
The plane lands, the attendant is escorted off. Nora is feeling better and still wants to testify, especially after DiNozzo and Ziva did their part. She can't wait to see Daniel. DiNozzo is all "yeah, about that..."
DiNozzo is looking at his Paris photos and chatting with McGee and Ziva. He says Nora took the news pretty hard. Turns out Daniel was trying to cover up that he stole from Berringer, who was stealing from the Navy. On his way to MTAC with Gibbs McGee asks who slept on the couch. DiNozzo says he did, they flipped a coin. After he leaves, she wonders why he lied to McGee. He asks why she lied to Nora. (About sleeping together I'm guessing). He shows her his fave photo from Paris and it turns out that it has a person in it: Ziva.
