Producer, Christina Clack, originally found the Leffew family on their YouTube Channel "Gay Family Values" in 2009, when the Leffews only had 3 videos posted.
Director, Cassie Jaye, was raised Evangelical Christian and had never been exposed to a family with two gay dads before making this film.
Producer, Ford Austin, was in a nearly fatal car accident during production of the film. Most of his producing "The Right to Love" was done from various hospital beds.
Cassie Jaye (Director) and Christina Clack (Producer) are sisters. Nena Jaye (Producer) is their mother.
A lesbian couple in Seattle, Washington, was also filmed to have their story be a part of "The Right to Love", but upon post-production it was discovered that the audio system had failed during their interviews, so they were not included in the film.
