- Ambrose heads to the mainland to learn more about Percy's past and uncovers dark family secrets.
- Newly suspicious of Meg Muldoon, Harry follows her and sees her talking to a woman. Harry goes and talks to the woman who reveals that she's Risa, Percy's mother. Risa tells Harry that she became pregnant as a teenager while working for the Muldoons. She has since married and had more kids. Risa warns Harry that Meg is "a tyrant". She says that Percy wanted to get away from Meg and that, nine months ago, she had come by and stayed with her overnight. She says that Percy had a big wad of cash and that when she got up the next morning, Percy was gone. She also shows Harry a postcard which Percy had sent from the mainland.
Harry goes to the mainland and meets with Percy's former roommate, Caroline. Caroline says that Percy abruptly left six months ago. Percy had responded to a Craigslist ad for a roommate and the two had hit it off, spending plenty of time clubbing and partying. Caroline got Percy a job at the clothing store she worked at. One day, Percy apparently saw someone in the mall. She warned Caroline that if a man came by looking for her to say she wasn't there, and hustled out of the store. Caroline looked but couldn't see who Percy might be worried about. After that, Percy became an emotional wreck, not leaving the house and spending much of her time sleeping. Eventually, Caroline convinced her to go to the club again, but Percy saw someone there, freaked out, and left. When Caroline got home, she found Percy gone and signs of a possible struggle.
Chief Raskin takes Harry to the woods near where they found Percy's car. They found some objects arranged like the ones found near where Percy apparently jumped. Harry asks Raskin about the people he saw swimming at night, but Raskin says he doesn't know anything. Harry tells Sonya that he wants to talk to Meg but they had had plans so he invites her to join him. They go to the Muldoons house. Meg is about to have dinner with her sons Colin and Sean, Percy's father, so she invites Harry and Sonya to join them. During dinner, Sean gets a phone call that the Lams cut their lobster pots. Harry begins to question Meg about Percy: if she was involved with drugs, if Meg knows where she might have been going that night. He reveals what he's learned about Percy leaving the island. Meg downplays anything and Colin is standoffish. Sean is more receptive and concerned, especially when he learns that Percy may have been in trouble on the mainland and that Meg and Colin had secretly gone there to retrieve her. Meg calls dinner short. Outside, she goes to confront Harry. He reveals to her that he knows she lied about seeing Percy and figures that Percy must have come to see her that night. There's a scuffle and Meg and Harry find Colin and Sean fighting. Sean tells Harry that he should investigate Colin, before storming off. Meg remembers going to the mainland and bringing Percy back home. After she put Percy to bed she heard her saying "Leave me alone. Please go away." to someone.
Back at their rental, Sonya chides Harry for how he acted, saying that he was cruel and out of control. While Sonya goes to sleep, Harry stays up to work the case. Sean comes by to talk to Harry. He confirms Harry's suspicion that Percy came by that night. Sean says that Percy confronted him about his drug use. He says that after the emotional confrontation he needed a fix. He didn't want anyone to recognize his car so he took Percy's. He was the one driving her car to Diez's that night. Harry asks Sean why he said that Colin should be investigated. Sean says that he was just pissed off, but that his mother is blind to Colin's faults. Sean says that Colin and Percy were always close. Harry asks what he means by that, but Sean takes his leave. Harry imagines Percy telling him that he can see why she might want to leave. He hopes that maybe she is just on a beach somewhere.
A couple go clamming on the shore. Nearby, a dead body floats in the water.
