Boring, but...
petteri_e5 November 2017
The first half of the movie felt like twice as long as the movie really was, but there was something that I couldn't just put away. Second half was more intense and I had to put things away from my hands that I could focus better.

Add +1 to score from each you like: Slow life like storytelling; Sappy love-story; Humanity issues.

Awful

This movie is awful. It really is a terrible film. There is no story to tell. The acting is so bad. It's a B movie, a TV movie. You're just wasting your time. There is nothing to see in this movie. It's just terrible. Wish I had that hour and a half of my life back. I almost fell asleep. Terrible, just terrible.

Interesting, Entertaining & Thought Provoking.

Simple Creature is a very interesting story about a young woman who finds love, gets into a bus accident & then things get weird. Everything, after that happens, is spoilers. So much takes place, some really wicked things, some really sad things & some WTF moments. This is well worth your time to sit and watch.

A well told story

So here's the deal: I know the film maker. I decided to watch his film to get a glimpse into his art. As with all art, this effort comes from within. He made "something from nothing." In my mind, this is the essence of being fully human. Creating something from nothing. All art is worthy.

Now, turning to the film, I happen to have an appreciation for the budgetary constraints here. The question for me is: how good is the result relative to the constraints? (Think of water world, huge budget, lousy outcome considering this). So for Simple Creature I think very good. It is an interesting story told primarily with dialogue, implication, and inference. It's a "head space" film. If you're not cerebral or primarily an adrenaline junkie (think John Wick) then you won't like this film. If you are thoughtful, like dialogue, and are appreciative of competent filming technique and story telling, then you will enjoy this. Well done in my book, especially given to budgetary constraints.

An Insignificant Singularity, Not Apocalyptic but Trippy Warning: Spoilers
This up-looking story does a ping when you expect a pong. Now we have a hybrid running around, more human than not, all but convincing most folk she didn't die in the mortal sense of mortality that we call death but came back with a strange (would it not be almost programmed) demeanor that can't quite convince her husband that she is actually her but being lonely, he'll settle, but then he too becomes a guinea pig for the same reasons as she and maybe that's how they planned it BHA-HA-HA-HAW. Not to spoil it for you but it's the journey not the destination for this slow-burn plot--it's always the dialog that tips you off about an excellent screenwriter--actually every movie is about dialog, whether chatty or silent so all said, I salute this screenwriter--the dialog and understated sinisterness of the charactors in A SIMPLE CREATURE is naturalistic and top drawer and I was drawn deeply into every character and backstory. The plot operates like a well-oiled machine and there is not one wasted word or expression in its entireity. Like a mundane slice of life with a lime twist. You're almost surprised that it's sci fi--which is the best kind in my opinion. The budget consists of renting a lab with men in white coats. You really have to have an imagination at this level of "indie"osity.
