Bittersweet

Warning: Spoilers
I love Casey's character and Jesse Spencer. It is so nice to see a decent man portrayed in a series. I do believe Casey would transfer to another fire department to help his friend's children. This show is the best of Duck Wolf. I think Jesse Spencer wanted more acting challenges so he left. I never detected one Australian accent during his stay. He embraced Casey. I found myself tearing up with this episode, and I am a stoic type.

Fitting goodbye to Casey.

Warning: Spoilers
As happens with Dick Wolf shows, it's time for a salary dump. Jesse Spencer is out as Matt, but at least they didn't kill him off.

The rest of the episode was okay, including an amusing drop in by Trudy from PD.

And for the second week in a row.... where's Stella? Another money saving ploy?

This was a Bittersweet episode, Im glad they did not kill casey off & left him an opening to return, but Him & Sylvie was just beginning as a couple, which I had been looking forward to for a long time, I hope the writers do not have her move on too soon & show they give them a chance to at least try to make the long distance thing work, but 3 years??, she won't wait that long for romance.

Needed to happen

Casey was a major character in past seasons for this show and was at one time the best, but that was a long time ago and it was time to get rid of him cause he got stale and the new talent surpassed him. He really should have gone away 3-4 seasons ago.

Unrealistic
doug2go22 October 2021
Really - I am a fan of Chicago Fire as it attempts to be a realistic action / drama - this episodes misses - there is no way a young Captain in a Fire dept is going to give up his career and his significant other to take care of two middle teenagers he hasn't seen in 10 years 500 miles away - Come On - that is just plain nuts. And then his significant other, who was planning on giving her life to him, is OK with this - and didn't even see him off as he left for the airport as she is too busy. - That part of the show was a 1 , the Baby and action scenes were as usual - great and a 9 . Like one other reviewer - I am not disappointed to see Casey go. I can see Sylvie moving on and causing the new Chief of Paramedics a romantic dilemma. That could be a lot of fun as a side bar to a great action series .

More realism please

Warning: Spoilers
As another reviewer here, i can somewhat go along with Casey going to Oregon. It not realistic IRL, but it kinda fits his character.

However, i strenuously object to the entire firehouse closing down, going out of commission, because Cruz's wife is giving birth. That just could not happen. Who have heard of such a thing ? Come by the hospital after shift, or after the birth, whichever comes first, but everybody going and camping out in the waiting room ? No, no way. An average first baby takes approximately 8-12 hours, from start of labour to finish.

It really beggars belief. Writers - please - do better.

Or do you believe the audience are morons ?
