A decent documentary about Ol Dirty Bastard from the Wu Tang Clan, with some fresh interviews from the remaining members as well as some family members and of course Papa Wu and some other people in the business.
Consisting of 40% clips from ODB, which most to be fair I and probably most other ODB fans already have seen on youtube, in fact I would guess that that is where the director got the clips from. But it's still fairly well compiled.
Doesn't really go into too much depth though, you never really know why or how ODB came to be the extreme character that he was.
We always asumed it was substance-abuse but being that he was put in a psychiatric hospital for a while we wonder if it possibly was underlying psychological issues as well, that is never really dugged into.
And at the end people talk about what a good man ODB was but the only noble thing we hear about ODB doing in the documentary is one time handing out free pizzas to everyone in his neighbourhood. Other than that it's mostly about him stealing friends girlfriends and getting shot and other wild not so good stuff like that.
And he clearly made an emotional impact on some peoples lives, for instance you can see GZA getting emotional when talking about ODB dying but we're never given examples of the extent of their friendship so it's hard to get fully pulled in from the outside looking in.
But still it's pretty entertaining to watch.
For the record there is another documentary called "DIRTY: PLATINUM EDITION (2013)" which I believe is the same documentary, because that has the exact same creators and produced by the same company with perhaps some new refixes (hence the "platinum edition" bit).
