Aliens Are Nice Anthropologists

Warning: Spoilers
Hi The Bones Booth Pod!

Compared to the heavier hitting episodes of season five, I think this one tends to get overlooked, but I wish it didn't, because it's still a really great episode. I know most people like it for some of the overt "X Files" references, but since I am more of a "Roswell" fan, I appreciate it for those aspects.

Like most of the cases that take place outside of D. C., this one allows Booth and Brennan to have a bit more fun than they sometimes get to when they are at home. The case is interesting, and I like that it feels like a companion/sister episode to "Man in the Bear". I don't know how best to explain what I mean by that, but Andrew, you get it, right? I enjoy Booth and Brennan's on-top-of-the-car chat (TM) that takes place at the end of the episode. Every opportunity for a flirty moment between the two of them, is a good time.

As a Hodgela shipper, I am not a fan of seeing Angela and Wendell together. It never felt right, and unless I am actively re-watching, I conveniently "forget" that it ever did. Wendell is a nice guy, but they have no chemistry. I spend the episode feeling much like Hodgins does towards their relationship. Sad and a little angry.

Spoiler Alert: I am glad that their relationship doesn't last too long after this episode.

Slow Moving

Eventually they had to get to extra-terrestrials to get a body. A man is running around the desert, in touch with someone else. He spots a body which looks like some made-up alien. He is a true believer. Eventually, there is a strange effort to avoid too much attention. Some of the locals are just tired of waves of nut-cases showing up, knocking down fences, and trespassing to get looks at these outer space creatures. Booth and Brennan are kept from transporting the body by a local sheriff and must do their work in a hospital nearby. That is fun. What is not fun and totally uninteresting is the continuing saga of the breakup of Angela and Hodgins.

Absolutely love The X Files references!

Warning: Spoilers
Bones and the X Files are 2 of my favorite tv shows and I love how this episode of Bones makes X Files references, including true alien believers who spend their lives searching for the "the truth" (because as The X Files says, "the truth is out there," right?) and who think that aliens killed the deceased and even the deceased's ringtone is set as the X Files theme song!! I love that they did an x Files themed episode because in the first episode of the show, Booth says to Bones "we're Scully and Mulder" and of course Bones says "I don't know what that means." While in the last episode of the series, Booth says to bones. "We're way better than Scully and Mulder" and Bones replies "I don't know what that means."

Classically Silly

Warning: Spoilers
Hey Bones Booth, Definitely one of my favorite episodes to look back on. Lots of season 5 feels like home because it's when I started watching while the show was airing.

What's not to love? Brennan laughing about aliens over the radio. Her suddenly being good at cop talk. And her using a Palm Pre! Feels like home.

Don't get me wrong this episode has its issues. The three wheel date is awkward but important to the plot. So much magic evidence. Please tell me what a "pixel level" means because I think it's just trying to jargon up "not doctored". And don't get me started on the Mexican bush that is so common that Jack can identify it on a dark partial video but is so rare it helps identify the batter company.

Also why is Brennan wearing a full coat in the desert?

Look at how my ball bearings ricochet.

-John.
