This "Movies That Made Us" series takes a tone that is light-hearted, sometimes even a little goofy, and full of whiz-bang visual effects. Like that approach or not, it always at least somewhat "makes up for it" with access (e.g. Interviews) with key members of the production.
In this "Friday the 13th" installment, the filmmakers really focus on director Sean Cunningham and his journey both up until and during the filming process. Some of the film's producers, special effects crew, and actors also provide recollections. This all includes various stories from the film's admitted aping of "Halloween", selection of the cast, set creation (including a midstream shutdown), and the general sort of fly-by-the-seat-of-the-pants energy that permeated the shoot. An entire segment is also given to the iconic soundtrack and its unique creation.
Overall, I enjoyed this little romp through "Friday the 13th" history. While maybe not holding up quite as well as other slasher flicks, the legacy of Jason has lasted through the decades. The campier approach to the material in the film itself also lends itself nicely to the comedic effect/tone that personifies this "Movies That Made Us" series.
