I am an big fan of Newgrounds, even being an admin on the Newgrounds Wiki. I obviously had to find this show on some point due to its immense popularity, and I did.
Neurotically Yours was an very simple series, but not bad. The episodes were short, with regular animation, but they were interesting, mainly on the Foamy Rant episodes. However, John (Johnathan Ian Mathers, he goes for Jim but who cares) had the terrible idea of over-sexualizing the protagonist, Germaine. As this is an adult cartoon, obviously you are going to have some green humor and sexual references, and it had before! But, becoming it the point of the whole show was just abysmal, because it's an cartoon, not an porno. John even made Germaine an prostitute! And obviously, this let the show to lose its younger audience, which were kids and teens who just wanted to see something funny and not porno.
The first real controversy related to this show was when John decided to do an special about the hurricane Katrina on 2005. As you may think, If it is an special, would it have more quality on the animation? Absolutely no! Joe just pasted an image of the Louisiana map with an bubble speech of Foamy, with an audio of the angry squirrel ranting over. An similar special came out in 2006: And you would think, John tried to improve and make something more "special" this occasion? Absolutely no! Now on a Californian province, Foamy ranted about illegal Mexican immigrants on California stealing jobs. And he had an friend specialized on racial topics, wouldn't he call the guy or something? This flash got overwhelmingly disastrous reviews which let to the movie's eventual deletion, and it was pretty much forgotten until some years ago.
On 2011, John looked back at what he was doing, and rebooted the cartoon. Much like those crappy Cartoon Network reboots you think when you hear the word, the art style became uglier and he apparently wanted to remove an 60% of the sexual content, but, it was still sexual. On 2016, more the half of the whole movies got deleted, including that one Katrina special, and he started reuploading them on Newgrounds (why did he deleted him on first place, WHY???) and thanks to this, Tom Fulp added an option to remove awards from movies on 2020.
On 2017, Joe rebooted it for an second time, now the art style becoming more likely to the comic strips art style (which look like sketches). Neurotically Yours were already on YouTube since 2009, and he basically had moved to here, doing an new show calling Foamy the Squirrel (The only and original Foamy The Squirrel!)
On 2023, with the 20 anniversary of the show coming, Joe decides to make the show "chibi". It isn't Neurotically Yours anymore, it's Neurotically Yours BITS! 7 second funny clips of the show with an new art style. 7 seconds, with AI generated backgrounds, and another 20 seconds of an outro. So these instead of being on YouTube or TikTok, these were on Newgrounds! With the last one having 1/5.
So, Neurotically Yours has been an decadent show, becoming from an very much decent show to what it is now. Some episodes are still enjoyable, but it is clear this show is mediocre nowadays and episodes can't save it. What used to be the story of an squirrel that hates everything and her gothic owner is now the story of an annoying squirrel and a prostitute. Let's put as example the downfall of Family Guy or The Simpsons, shows running on one of the most watched TV networls, but now with an webtoon that one episode lasts 1 minute or less!
