In the late 1800s Westward expansion and the California Gold Rush offered a new beginning for many people, but others remained lost in the superstition and ignorance of past generations.
Brother Gabriel (Michael Baron) and McLane (David Therault) sought to use that superstition and ignorance for their own benefit in the 1870s Northern California town of Pyrite to rid the town of a group home of handicapped children and steal the riches hidden on their ranch.
When the children, Rebecca (Alden Hellmuth), Luke (Nathan Hellmuth), Lisabeth (Victoria DiLoreto) and Josh (Andy Wakeman), and their young nurse Sarah (Tara Abate) and her father Doc Parker(Jim Byrne, Jr.) are threatened by greed and prejudice, a young cowboy, Jake (Rick Telesca) must overcome his own fear and prejudice with the help of his stepfather, Sam (Jeff Cavalieri), to defend them and discover a secret about the family he lost years ago in the process.
