- Martin lies about his haemophobia whilst interviewing for a surgeon's job in London, which he gets. Returning to Port Wenn by train, he sits next to Jim Selkirk, who drops down dead. Jim's widow visits the surgery, claiming Jim is telling her that she is ill. . .which she is, but not in the way she thinks. A grasping couple try to sue Joan when their brattish son falls sick after a visit to her farm but Martin proves their own lack of hygiene is the cause. A session with a very young therapist to cure the haemophobia is less successful however and Martin walks out on him.—don @ minifie-1
- Martin travels to London to speak to a colleague about returning as a surgeon and is told they would be very pleased to have him back - provided he can satisfy all concerned that his phobia is a thing of the past. Martin tells him it's no longer an issue. He's made an appointment with the therapist recommended by Edith Montgomery, but the session doesn't go well. Louisa takes the school children to Aunt Joan's farm on a school outing. One of her students, Theo Wenn, is particularly badly behaved forcing Joan to lock him in the chicken coop. When the boy falls ill, his parents consult a solicitor and may take action against her. Martin also has to treat Mrs. Selkirk who claims to be seeing her recently dead husband.—garykmcd
- Dr. Martin Ellingham is in London to meet Robert Dashwood, who is leading the selection process for the prestigious Imperial College London surgeon's job that Martin has applied for. Robert can tell that Martin is excited to be back in the world of surgery, and is pleased when Martin says he has finally conquered his debilitating blood phobia. Robert is confident that Martin will get the job. Meanwhile, a family sues Joan after she traps their highly troublesome child in her chicken coop, after which he develops a mysterious malaise.
