Stunning Finish
nisot29 August 2021
I started off a tad frustrated by the drawn out scenes and felt the first couple of episodes over indulged a bit in the excess time that comes with TV series hence the 8/10...However! The later episodes more than made up for the slow burn. In fact I don't remember much of the first episodes. All I can think of is the incredible plot twists and how the entire story came together into a stunning finale. Naija to the world y'all. I'm so proud 👏🏾

Absolutely sensational
christabeladebayo28 August 2021
This made me feel proud to be Nigerian. The acting, production and sheer expertise of this 7-part sequel left me giving a standing ovation. Nollywood really has come far. Storyline aside, the performances from each character were phenomenal and really captured my attention. I wish Oscars could be given for Eniola Salami actress and Toni Tones (young Eniola). I think I went through every emotion - I cried, I laughed, I gasped, I got goosebumps and I was in awe.

The storyline was brilliant and I didn't see IT coming!!!

My hat goes off to Kemi A for writing and directing this masterpiece. The fact that I could easily watch tbis again says a lot.

A Good One
akpabio-714506 September 2021
Hmmm... This was a movie. A GOOD ONE and that's about it. Buh let's break it down a bit.

Plot Kemi is still one of the best story tellers of all time in Nigeria. She has shown that time and again. From her music videos to movies. She knows how to tell and finish a story. She puts you at the edge of your sit in suspence and drops your jaw with a finish. Only this time she dragged on too much. It was unnecessarily longer than the movie should have been. I mean she spent the first episode rightfully introducing the queen and wasted too much time showing pain from the lead.

That was too much in my opinion. 8/10

Acting Man.... I think she focused more on the lead characters than she did for the rest. It's a body of work. I believe d energy should flow around all. The add-ons had bad or unnecessary script lines. The lead guard was too stiff the second in command was better. Needless to say the leads were magnificent. Jaw dropping performance. Second time Toni tones is giving me chills down my spine. Hot damn 8/10

SFX Special effects needed a lot more. I've seen much better in Nigerian movie. It's big budget movie I expected more. 5/10

Direction Kemi wrote and directed that means she brought her imagination to people's minds and they loved it. I applaud her. Buh like I said the acting was focused on some key moments and leads. Some parts lacked emotion and Its unfortunate cause Kemi always has scenes that give goosebumps. The scene in the beginning for instance thats EPIC what a way to begin. The best emotional scene in the movie in my opinion was the reporters argument with his wife in his apartment. Then the graveyard scene in the first episode was Iconic. I think she dwelled too much on it but still, literal goosebumps. 7/10

Script Although better than most Nigerian movies, needed more work. Some lines were better left unsaid. Especially the add-ons like the elders. They needed to be scene not heard. 7/10

Cast Mad choice of team but not totally on point. They came with their A game. Charlie Boy over acted his role though. Making him fake. At a point he was counting his words. He wasn't as natural as the rest. For a supporting role with a very important role to play, he didn't do justice to it. Sank the movie for me. I think Kemi was going with bad and dangerous but sexy something like Jafar in Aladdin or Rasputin Anastasia or Scar in Lion King. Bad buh like-able. Charlie boy was a No no. 7/10

Soundtrack An important part of every movie. This movie lacked a lot of that and audio effects in core areas were missing. 5/10

I like the fact that she never focuses on one Ethnic group. She mixed it all. Love that. Like I said it was a GOOD movie.

Couldn't have been better really. I wondered what they would create after the initial movie but this limited series shows that a lot of work went into the production of this movie.

Great movie
adetunjiaakinde29 August 2021
In terms of acting, this is one of the greatest movie I have watched. It took me back to the days of classical Nigerian movies were the acting was so pure and detailed. The storyline is immersive, and intriguing. Great movie.

A bit Weak. Probably would have been better as a movie
adebayoadedoyino2 September 2021
I admire Kemi Adetiba. I think she's fantastic and Sola Sobawale is an amazing actress.

But if I will be honest, I thought this series was a bit weak. The way the story was told or the path it followed was weak, perhaps because it was made into a series.

From the start, the story seemed to drag. There were things I expected to happen (can't quite place my finger on what...not a filmmaker) but it just felt like certain things were missing, some things dragged, some things maybe unnecessary (some of the lighting/effects in some scenes) and there were scenes where the actor seemed tired.

There were unfulfilled expectations, and it made me wonder what the issue was because I remember I really liked the initial King of Boys (2018).

AMAZING!

Stella acting, stella production, stella directing.

The movie was an experience. I was on the edge of my sit for 7 hours binge watching the whole series. The actresses that played Eniola both young and old deserve an oscar!

Kemi Adetiba is a GENIUS!

Beautiful production but a weak storyline
IfyOgwude229 August 2021
The only reason I'm not going to give this a 10 out of 10 star review is because I found the story lacking. Many of the major characters weren't fully explored and were therefore wasted, and some of the plot twists made absolutely no sense. That aside, this series is an exquisite work of art. Everything from the cast to the music was perfect. You couldn't ask for a better actors, or ask for more beautiful locations. The scenery is a marvel to behold. The wardrobe mouth watering. The acting was superb.... Charley Boy is a delight to watch on camera. This was a wonderful effort by Kemi Adetiba and I'm really happy I got a chance to watch this. Looking forward to more and I'm sure the stories will improve.

With Nollywood's Shortcomings, Let's Dissect the Story
dereksylvans9 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I love Kemi Adetiba, and I think she's been a breath of fresh air in the Nollywood directors guild. However as a writer, she leaves a lot to be desired especially when it comes to continuity and sequels.

I'm not a professional critic so I'll try to make this brief and opinionated. As a screenwriter myself, I understand that factors such as realism and common sense are deterrents to entertainment and as such their application could lead to way shorter screen time (e.g this 7 episode series/mini-series could be shortened to a 2hr movie if such factors are applied in full).

Factors to consider that left viewers racking our brains;
  • What was Eniola's true intentions, or what was the breaking point that would have made her change intentions given that she seemed to be in control of the situation throughout the entire series based on the events at the end.

  • What transpired between Eniola and Akorede to lead to an unimaginable union given the events of the prequel.

  • What was the point of Rev. Ifeanyi, really?

  • How can you rig a presidential election from the US with your assets frozen, but not a gubernatorial election being in Lagos and with your assets in place?

  • Ade Tiger, what was the association to Aare, the clandestine meetings, and the resolution with Eniola?

There's a lot more, but I'll leave it there.

This Is The Best Political Series In Africa
alabiopeyemi-4357328 August 2021
Let me start by saying kudos to every new members that made this outstanding political series possible

I'm a solute everyone and I must also encourage the producers to keep up the good work we need more of this

This shows the concept of politics, details everything is all about interest and no one is anyone's enemy until they are enemies

This is more like House of cards series, these conspiracy analysis, the betrayal , the interest this is all what make politics not just in Nigeria but in every part of a democratic world

Kudos pls we are expecting the next episode 😁

Could've been so much better
ihama9 January 2023
Nigerians have to stop hyping a film just because it is made by one of their own. How else is the industry supposed to grow if we don't give honest reviews.

KOB2 had some interesting moments but basically it is just average. I've seen many more interesting old school and lower budget Nigerian movies with better acting too. For example, I really loved Sola Sobowale as Toyin Tomato in Superstory. That series is still memorable over 15+ years later. It left one aching to watch the next episode. There was little to no suspense or intrigue in the first 6 episodes of KOB2. I felt like I was "suffering myself" as they say. All the good stuff went into the final episode.

Also there's a lot of robotic English speaking. The actors should have been allowed to speak with their natural Nigerian accent so it flows. Some of the actors seemed so preoccupied with articulation that I think that sort off affected their acting. Even Sola Sobowale's acting went from good to electrifying whenever she spoke Yoruba or pidgin!

Also too many drawn out scenes that I had to fast forward, even though I was watching at 1.5 speed already.

All in all I will watch again if there is a KOB3.

Major Disappointment
gibson-lee28 August 2021
I was underwhelmed with this sequel. First she kept us on tenterhooks for years promising a movie, she then made a TV series and sold out to Netflix. I spent 7 hours watching this much hyped much anticipated sequel to take off, alas it didn't.

Top Notch
michaelegbo-2991031 December 2021
Negative reviews here are "WEAK" it's either they didn't get the storyline from part one or they just don't really understand Nigerian/Lagos modern history... Anyone who loves art, Who's seen part one will know the plot and storyline was already built dere and this was a follow up.. advice to negative reviews, Go watch part 1 first... Esp to those talking about lack of plot.

This series is absolutely fantastic, from the story line to the cast, costumes and the emotion portrayed by the protagonist. I'm sure proud to be a Nigerian at this time. Well done Kemi Adetiba, well done Sola Sobowale!

A Brilliant Series From Nigeria!!!
anohso1212 September 2021
I am so happy I came across this series. I enjoyed it thoroughly from the beginning to the end. I hope there will be a season two.

My family loves to watch Nigerian films, but I often find the production rather poor, and I was often put off by the obsession with Christianity and the tendency to demonize traditional Nigerian spirituality. But this series cast a fair balance. Yes, religion is a big part of Nigerians' life, but so too are many other things, and the creators of this series gave us a glimpse of the huge potential Nollywood holds because this series actually rivals many similar films coming out of Hollywood.

The writing and directing were on point, the actors were superb: the lead actor, Sola Sobowale, was unbelievable brilliant. I also love the costume. Another thing to mention is the many Nigerian proverbs shared throughout the episodes. I didn't know Nigerians have so many wise sayings. They gave the writing/drama a strong boost.

One of the worst
solanatey28 August 2021
With the hype I would expect a great movie but this is one of the worst movies I've seen in a while. Great actors and good cast but the storyline and unnecessary scene create attention. I'm surprise some people actually find this movie fun because I couldn't really associate fun with this movie. The movie is quite boring , no anxiety and nothing to keep you on your feet or have you guessing . Really disappointed meanwhile I saw king of Johannesburg and I was wowed .. Now that's a movie.

Question to all the filmmakers in nollyhood.
meekkenoe16 September 2021
First of all, I saluted kemi because its not easy to make a movie. But Concerning this popular movie #KOB I can't say it better or worst than the rest of nollyhood movies...consequently, I have a question to all the filmmakers, directors, producers and ofcourse the actors in the industry..."what kind of stories and pictures are we sending out to a country that needs libration, a country that need delivarance, a sick country like Nigeria??"...please let's think about future and start telling our own untold stories, our culture and our history for the benefit of our next generation, thank you.. Bye bye!

Way better than expected!
Sexyjay7112 May 2022
Solo S. ( main character ) was definitely made to play E. Salami. Her stares, her looks and her attitude is on point. The corruption, the betrayal and the competitiveness is what really made this movie a hit for me. I recommend to watch this limited series and sit back and enjoy the acting.

It could've been better
ighorodjeonanefe24 January 2023
In as much as the king boys gave us food for thought it could have been better, it left a lot to be desired as it was ridiculed with plot holes and under utilized characters.

A lot of characters had the potential to be so much more but rather they lacked depth and any real motive.

Too many needless scenes a better job could have been done with the editing but asides from this it also has its good side.

A beautiful cast some of which gave good accounts of themselves others which left a lot to be desired as they where sparingly used.

All in all king of boys is a good watch but that is all it is at best.

The Best of the Best
mmcdowell-5513230 September 2022
American movies don't compare. Im an American I know. Sola Sobowale is sensational in everything she touches. I mean I can't find a better movie. Maybe more dramatic and heartfelt but this is perfect. The Movie is perfect. The Return is perfect. Kemi, Kemi. KEMI, did not come to play. I can not recommend these movies enough. As a writer and director you are everything the world could ask for. The cast is perfection. Adesua Etomi, baby, you gave loyal daughter all day. Girl you snatched all the crumbs. Toni Tones girl that didn't make no sense how amazing and speechless you made us. Girl you came through. Titi Kuti you are a force. Even in silence you gave everything that part needed. Ademola Adedoyin i don't know how you did it. You made us feel sad and angry with Kitano. Perfect. Perfect. The talent is overwhelming. Sola Sobowale, Moma, I can only shake my head in disbelief at how gifted you are. Wooooo. I mean, Moma, Moma. We felt you. You amazed us all. We are so grateful for your talent Moma. Applause from Tennessee. Standing ovation to you all. Outstanding Kemi, Outstanding.

sadly not well executed
ngandacinema6 August 2023
KOB is one of those movies you want to sincerely root for because it has such humongous potential, yet was sadly not well executed

DELICIOUS

---Deyemi Okanlawan's performance stood out by far 😃 Though playing a minor role, he outshone his part by being both comic and weird. Bravo!

We also have to appreciate Nse Ikpe-Etim and Sola Sobowale, they are always a joy to watch. How can we forget Richard Mofe-Damijo? A true actor by birth😅

---A big round of applause to the costume design team. You could tell that hard labor was involved. Work.well.done

----The film did a good job highlighting Eniola's emotional side, showing that she's a human being after all. Compared to the first installment, we identified with Eniola this time; we were moved by her helplessness and solitude.

---A better sound engineering in this second installment, it was very appreciated!

BLAND

---King Of Boys belongs to the thriller genre, thus it's supposed to be designed with suspense, excitement and darkness to keep us on the edge of our seats.

Regretfully, many factors worked against this: no powerful dialogues (apart from the proverbs), bright color grading, weak sound and visual effects.

Cinematography didn't succeed in building tension during the movie, no dramatic movement of the camera, very few close-up shots, too many wide and long shots, and not enough low angles

---Storytelling was sadly not fluid; it included many characters that weren't properly used. Eniola's younger self (Toni Tones) failed to play a significant role in Eniola's life. Her appearance and disappearance were so sudden and sporadic that she was forgotten from the cast

---The first minutes of the first episode began on a strong note with Eniola's controversial return to Nigeria, but later, the momentum became gradually lost with long scenes and a feeble climax.

Not much development was made to Eniola's character compared to the first installment.
