The film's director, Matthew Charles Hall, is the great grand nephew to legendary Hollywood art director Charles D. Hall, a two time Oscar nominee and the art director of such horror classics as the Universal's original Dracula, Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein, The Man Who Laughs, The Cat and the Canary, and The Old Dark House. Matthew Charles Hall had seen these horror films and was inspired to make his own Gothic film entitled In the Land of Phantoms. Hall utilized the same aesthetic feel that his great grand uncle had incorporated into the old Hollywood Gothic classics of yesteryear. The film is dedicated to the memory of Charles D. Hall.
The film was photographed at the same location as Hall Legacy's upcoming science fiction/horror film Hunting Grounds (2009).
