Tongues wag; Martin's admirer Sally Tishell is cold towards Louisa but Joan welcomes her with open arms and tells Martin to do his duty by her. Joan also offers Louisa accommodation as she has rented her house to new head Mr. Strain, who is acting VERY oddly, telling Martin that Louisa, who has gone back to the school as a teacher, wants his job. Joan takes Louisa for a scan - by Edith. Joan recalls Edith from the past and has never liked her. - Dr. Martin Ellingham struggles to deal with Louisa's news, and is conflicted over what action to take. But Louisa is adamant she does not want Martin involved. Auntie Joan, however, is highly insistent that he help Louisa through the pregnancy. Louisa takes a job back at Portwenn Primary School, where the headmaster is creating suspicion and public concern over his increasingly erratic behaviour. Martin realises the schoolmaster is unwell when he evacuates blue urine. Things come to a frightening turn when the schoolmaster takes a class of schoolchildren to the beach.
- Martin is still in a bit of shock at Louisa's return and her present condition. She makes it quite plain that she expects nothing of Martin and moves into a room at the pub. She also gets a job teaching at the school, but the new headmaster who replaced her, Mr. Strain, is acting quite oddly. Aunt Joan is thrilled at Louisa's return and that she is pregnant and even offers her a place to stay at her cottage. Martin feels left out of it all and doesn't quite know what to do. As for the headmaster, Martin has also noticed some odd behavior and all it takes is a urine sample to diagnose his problem. Martin also has to deal with a patient who asks him if there is a cure for being gay.—garykmcd
