Double Date (#5.2)

Warning: Spoilers
A fun idea of Ted going on a blind date with a woman he went on a blind date 7 years ago. It was well done by having them remembering what happened and where they went wrong. I am not sure I would be able to remember a one time date to such precise details but it was still a good idea.

I also like the doppleganger idea! Lesbian Robin, Mustache Marshall and now stripper Lily. Looking forward to see the rest of them!.

What I don't like is that they have trouble keeping up Robin's character. I don't understand why she always goes so different when dating. Why would a woman who is afraid of commitment and just one episode before could not bring herself to have the "talk" be so insanely against her boyfriend going to a strip club? Somehow they don't have trouble with keeping Barney the way he is.

A nice episode, but only fair compared to episodes from season 1 to 3
This is another one of the rather ridiculous How I Met Your Mother episodes, as its plot is about Ted having a blind date with a girl he's had a blind date with 7 years ago. Of course, to bring up great jokes, we see both dates side by side as they run down practically identically. Lindsay Sloane plays Ted's date Jen and I really liked her, the two had a nice connection. The other story part is about the first double date of Marshall & Lily and Barney & Robin. It's a relatively unconventional double date as it sets place in a strip club in which Barney and Marshall had found a stripper doppelgänger of Lily earlier.

This episode contained one laugh-out-loud-moment for me, when Barney tries to prove to Robin that he isn't visiting this strip club that often which absolutely fails. There are a couple of other well-written gags in it as well which at least made me smirk. The plot is better than average on this show and everything was executed well, therefore "Double Date" didn't disappoint me. However, there are a lot of little flaws such as the stupid final scene or Robin suddenly being totally pro- relationship. Great fans will really like it, though.

Good but sadly a copy

Well, I must say that I am quite a fan of the series. Actually, only until season 6, because after that I was only going along with the plot, not enjoying it even half of what i did in previous seasons. Unfortunately in some episodes, this series is way too "inspired" by older shows. Not that I'm not a fan of those, for example I still believe that Seinfeld is the best thing that's ever shown on television and it's almost unavoidable to go and get a few ideas there. But in this case, the story around Marshall and Lily is an absolute copy of season 6's episode 16 of King of Queens (Damned Yanky). Actually, the KOQ's episode is way way funnier. For those who haven't seen it, go ahead and do it. King of Queens is in my opinion one of the most underrated sitcoms I've ever watched.

Lacking in laughs

Warning: Spoilers
HIMYM is an all time favorite and after a shaky drawn out start to season 4 its refreshing to see the season start fresh, Ted with a new job, Robyn and Barney in a relationship and possibly a baby for the Marshall/Lily couple but while the season opener started with a few laughs this particular episode was unfunny and forgetful. Ted who is never funny but usually likable is turning into a Ross clone off 'Friends'; in the end you just feel like slapping him every time he mentions 'the one'. He is particularly annoying here because the episode mainly revolves around him and a girl who "spoiler" he tries to woo the entire episode only to decide no I like the girl but the tiny insignificant things about her he couldn't live with. Unfortunately the sub story with Marshall and Barney can't save this and i'm hoping that this isn't the end of the laughs. The whole 'People looking like the group' did have potential for some laughs even a barney clone wouldn't have hurt, but everything just felt flat.
