Synopsis

  • Samuel Sullivan narrates for us, talking about the importance of memory. We see Peter sitting by Hiro's hospital bed and Emma trying to make sense of her sound crack in the wall.

Hiro wakes up. He knows about his brain tumor and that he's dying. Peter says he'll help him with the whole death "transition" if he needs it. But Hiro thinks Destiny brought to Peter to help him fix something in Peter's life. Peter wonders if he can help Hiro, he takes a little speed charge from Hiro.

Emma shows up. She thinks something is wrong with her ability. Peter takes her to talk to Hiro about abilities.

Peter speeds off "to save his life."

At the carnival, Lydia the tattoo lady and Sullivan are underwhelmed by Sylar. They expected more from the most powerful one of all. Sylar doesn't recognize his own name. "Call me Nathan," he says.

Sullivan tells Sylar about his powers. He has a few carnies show off their skills. Sylar shakes Lydia's hand and remembers shaking a lot of hands. He wonders if he was a politician.

Claire brings her laundry home. There's a noise in bathroom. It's Peter. It's been a long time since he's teleported.

Sullivan wants to "jump start the real Sylar" by having the cop (Ernie Hudson) come after him. So what if it kills the cop?

Peter gives Claire the 411. He wants a healer. Claire suggests her blood, but her blood's powers would only make it grow faster. HRG looks up Jeremy Greer, a kid with regenerative powers that he hunted once. Peter zaps HRG off to Jeremy in Georgia.

Lydia shows Sylar around and hits on him. Edgar gets jealous and warns Sylar off. Sylar plays it all "whatever dude," even after Edgar tosses knives near Sylar's fingers. Then he tosses Edgar in a wheel barrow of cement.

Sullivan interrupts. Fighter jets race overhead and Sylar's face morphs into Nathan's for a moment. He thinks he flew jets. Sullivan thinks it's time for "stronger measures" to get his true memories. Sullivan introduces Damian, a rasta-looking dude, who takes him to the House of Mirrors.

Emma asks Hiro how to make her power stop. He thinks maybe he's there to help her, not Peter. She leaves.

Cainan, Georgia. Peter and HRG find dead plants and bushes outside Jeremy's home. And a dead bird. The house smells like death. They go inside. It's stinky.

...Probably because of the two dead people inside, Jeremy's parents. HRG thinks it might be the flipside of Jeremy's power. Someone shoots at them from upstairs.

Meanwhile, back at the carnival, rasta dude takes Sylar on his mind mirror walk. He touches his head, Vulcan mind-meld style (with slightly different hand placement). Sylar looks in the mirrors and sees his dead mom (Ellen Greene) then the scene of him killing her.

    He freaks out.

Back in the hospital, Hiro sneaks up on Emma, trying to win her over to powers. She's looking at her brain scan on the computer. She tells Hiro about her ability to see sounds as colors.

Peter goes around back while HRG goes up to talk to Jeremy, putting down his gun first. He thinks he's dealing with a scared kid. A terrified teenager aims a shotgun at him, telling him to keep away. He says everything he touches ends up dead.

Sullivan greets Capt. Lubbock (Ernie Hudson), who appreciates the tickets Sullivan sent over. Lubbock shows him Sylar's photo.

In the House of Mirrors, Sylar watches more of his greatest hits, one sliced-open brain after another (good-bye Kristen Bell, Jayma Mays, other less noteworthy guest stars). Sylar is deeply disturbed and runs out screaming. He vomits.

Back in Georgia, Jeremy tells HRG he killed his parents accidentally. HRG says he never should have been left to suffer through this alone. Jeremy says he used to heal things, but it turned.

Peter pops up next next to HRG, in front of the shotgun. Jeremy fires but Peter stops time. He examines the frozen shotgun blast, then looks behind him to see his guts blown all over the wall. Peter collapses as time unfreezes.

HRG rips Peter's shirt open. He's bleeding out and won't make it to a hospital. HRG tells Jeremy to heal him, he urges him on, telling him he's seen him do it before. Jeremy says everything he touches dies and HRG points out he's touching him -- grabbing him by the arms -- at that moment. HRG walks him through visualizing Peter recovering. Jeremy leans down and puts his hand on Peter's shoulder. Peter wheezes a few times, takes a couple of gasping breaths and then sits up, healed.

Emma finds Hiro playing "Hiro the Magnificent" in the rec room. He calls her to play assistant, as he's dressed in a hospital gown and hooked to an IV. He says he's going to make her disappear.

He holds up a sheet to hide her from the audience and freezes time. She finds it very cool, and he tells her she can learn to use her powers to do good things in the world.

She hides at the back of the room and he unfreezes time. The kids love it.

Sullivan finds a shell-shocked Sylar. He can't believe how many people he killed. Sullivan gives him a "real world=bad, carnies=good" speech.

Sylar can't believe they'd take him in. Sullivan says they're family. Then he tells Sylar the cop who's after him is there, something has to be done, he says.

He's in the House of Mirrors. Sylar goes a hunting.

Hiro tells Emma about Charlie, someone who taught him to enjoy every day. Suddenly, Hiro can't believe he left her off the list. He writes her down. Emma makes him promise he won't leave until Peter returns.

Outside Jeremy's house, HRG checks that Peter got Jeremy's ability. He did and leaves for a nearby airfield where a plane is waiting.

HRG gives Jeremy his cover story: he found his parents dead of carbon monoxide poisoning. He tells Jeremy he's staying until he knows he's alright.

Sylar goes into the House of Mirrors. The cop draws on him. Sylar tells him to leave, while there's still time. The cop suggest he resist arrest so he can shoot. He shoots, and Sylar freezes the bullet. Then he gives the cop a good zapping. But he's troubled by what he's done and turns to leave the cop, singed but alive.

Then Edgar pops up and slices and dices Ernie to pieces. No more cop.

Emma plays the piano and sees rays of ethereal light. She enjoys it. (And for a deaf woman she tickles a nice tune.) Hiro watches approvingly. A crowd gathers and applauds.

Emma starts to escort Hiro back to bed but he turns and disappears.

The carnies surround non-killer Sylar. Sullivan hugs him, telling him he's safe now. They welcome him as a brother, say he'll live and work among them. They carny baptize him. (Which looks like a regular baptism, but with more funnel cake.)

Edgar asks Sullivan what use Sylar is without his Sylar tricks. "We'll just make a better Sylar, and when we do, he'll be ours forever," Sullivan says as they watch Lydia drape over him and lead him away. Edgar throws angry jealous knives.

Peter returns to the hospital to find Hiro gone. He finds the "Save Charlie" note.

Hiro pops up in his hospital gown at Charlie's diner in Texas three years ago. He sees Charlie (or at least what he thinks is her, her back is turned) in the diner.
