This is a short film, I was able to see at Newport Film Festival. It deals with a young girl who wants to be with her parents who died at sea. In dealing with the pain, she convinces herself she is a fish, and wants to go back with them. In doing so, she must kill herself, obviously. A lighthouse guy sees her and saves her, and they sort of fall for each other, but then she kills herself in the end anyhow. I was really sad watching it, and felt really bad for the fish girl. It's a nice story that deals with the problem of reality and the harshness that some people simply can not deal with, like the fish girl in the movie. It seems silly at first when she says she's a fish, but then you really start to understand and feel for her.
I wish Ling Li would make more movies like this with the underwater fantasy and love themes. It's really interesting.
