- Zatanna and the Sentinels of Magic gain unlikely allies, but the new alliance may not be enough.

- In Sydney, Vandal joins Phantom Stanger, Terra, and Red Tornado and says that's work to do. Stanger smiles in satisfaction, figuring that the conflict will end. The two heroes look on as Stranger teleports himself and Vandal away.
At the North Pole, Klarion arrives possessing the school bus and the passengers run out. Fate frees himself from Child's ice fist and Klarion explains that Child killed his anchor to the mortal plain so he using the bus to anchor himself. Zatanna suggests that Fate and Klarion team up, but Fate refuses and warns her that Klarion can't be trusted. Zatanna agrees but points out that they need each other, and Klarion points out that they don't have a lot of choice. Fate reluctantly gives in and they get on the bus, while two heroes teleport in.
At the Outsider tower in Hollywood, Gar looks at photos on his phone of the chaos across the world. Perdita and her bodyguard come in, and says that she's in town to see Gar. He dispiritedly responds.
The bus moves through the dimensions and Fate lays out a plan. Klarion insists on getting Tekli replaced first. Zatanna promises one of the students, Penny, that when they're gone they'll Penny back to her proper time. Mary wonders if they can trust Klarion, and Zatanna admits that they can't but they have no choice. The bus arrives at an animal shelter in Salem
In a place beyond time and space, Stranger summons the lords of Order and Chaos to hear Vandal's plea. Vandal says that on Earth he has maintained the balance between Order and Chaos, and Child has upset that balance, threatening to destroy the planet. Stranger points out that Vandal is to blame for making allying with Darkseid,
Zatanna and the Sentinels bring cats out from the shelter until Klarion finds one he's satisfied with. Klarion picks a "new" name for the cat--"Teekl"--and Klarion anchor himself with Teekl. Fate teleports himself, the Sentinels, and Klarion to Child, leaving the bus behind. They arrive at the ruins of Fate's Tower, and Zatanna cloaks herself and the Sentinels while Fate and Klarion combine their powers to teleport Child and Flaw there. Child figures that Klarion is a tool of Order, and launches a fireball at him. Klarion and Fate repel the fireball.
Gar takes Perdita to his room and she mentions that they haven't been together since he turned from Mars. She tries to commiserate with Gar over Conner's death, and says that she wants to help Gar through it if he'll let her.
At the Tower, the two sides exchange mystical volleys. Mary and Khalid attack Child as well, and Child draws on the power of the Lords of Chaos to bolster herself and blast apart Zatanna's shield, as well as knocking Fate and Klarion back.
Vandal points out that if Darkseid wins, his Anti-Life Equation will eliminate Chaos and render Order moot. The balance will be lost, and the balance is all. He suggests that they should join forces and tells them to honor their true purpose of balance. Order and Chaos agree to Vandal's proposal, but Chaos refuses to withdrawal Child and figure the scale will balance themselves. '
On Earth, Child weakens and Klarion senses it. Child insists that she still has enough power on her own and summon a rain of fire. Zatanna shields herself and the others, and Flaw attacks them. Mary blasts the crystalline creature, while Fate and Klarion confront Child. She impales Klarion and unleashed magical energy on both of her opponents, while Mary draws on the life force of her teammates and every living thing around her top power her battle against Flaw. Child and Klarion are both impressed. Mary holds Flaw back, and it knocks her out with a rock.
Perdita discovers that Gar quit his show and the Outsiders, and Gar says that he's on a break from them so Perdita doesn't need to worry anymore. Perdita asks about if they're also on a break, and says that she's been calling and texting and Gar has been ignoring her. She sees the pills Gar has been taking, and realizes he's been taking the sleeping pills to check out, like he's pushed everyone away, including her. Perdita tells Gar that he needs help and asks he to let her to get him help, and Gar insists that he doesn't need help. She says that she won't stand by and watch him self-destruct, and he tells her to leave. Perdita walks out.
Child blasts Fate and Klarion, and tells Flaw to do its worse. Traci uses his own power to make the flaw in Flaw spread and shatter it, and Child loses her anchor and flies off. Her magic fades, and Klarion teleports away. Fate tells Zatanna that her students surprised him, and each demonstrated great potential.
Fate and Mary put out the fires, and Zatanna tells Mary that she's not ready and she's more like Fate, who needs hosts to balance out his humane impulses. Mary insists that she did what needed to be done, and the cost was worth the result. Zatanna points out that Fate thinks the same way, and Fate tells Zatanna to spell it out. In response, Zatanna proposes that she, Traci, and Khalid alternate with Zatara providing Nabu with a host body for a week each. Fate agrees to the logic but says that Mary shouldn't be part of it, and an angry Mary tells them to send her home. Fate does so and then removes his helm, revealing Zatara.
Zatara refuses to consider his daughter's suggestion, and Zatanna says that they've sacrificed both their lives and she can on the burden one week a month. Her father gives in, and Khalid tells Zatanna that it would be an honor to don the helm of Fate. Khalid wonders if Traci will sacrifice balance against her altruistic desire to help. Khalid wonders if it was Zatanna's plan all along, to use her students to liberate her father.
Zatanna tells Traci that she doesn't have to do it, and Traci says that she's in. Khalid says that he'll go first so Traci can discuss it with her father, and Zatanna and Zatara can have time together. He dons the Helm and becomes Fate.
Stranger meets with Nabu in the mindscape, and tells the entity that balance has been restored. Nabu refuses to thank Vandal for cleaning up his own mess, and Stranger notes that the balance came about because of one person's act of love.
Zatanna hugs her father.
Later, Zatanna gives Charlie Dinah Lance' phone number and says that anyone should call Dinah if they need her help as a counselor. Zatanna uses magic to relive what the bus and its passengers went through, and then Fate teleports the bus to Metropolis, ten years ago when it disappeared because of Klarion's intervention. Fate teleports back to his Tower to restore it, and Zatanna remembers seeing Conner's spirit in the void, and not at rest. She figures that Conner needs help.
Later on the Satellite, Zatara meets with Dinah and talks about the bus passengers. She talks about what they accomplished in their futures, then turns the conversation to Zatara. Zatara says that his love and faith in his daughter got him through the "long night", and breaks into tears.
Mary is alone in Fawcett City, and the voice of Granny Goodness tells Mary that her friends are jealous of her, and twice they've denied Mary power. They seek to turn Mary into a nobody, so they can appear more impressive. Mary should say the word "Shazam" and embrace her true power, and Mary does so.
